Tarlin Information
The tarlins are a human-like race that has begun to take over Falandia. They originally came from another world called Tarlinia and somehow passed through the Space Between Worlds, though no one knows quite how. They are a dark and cruel race and seem to live to torture and destroy. Both females and males will fight, and children, from the time they can walk, are taught the arts of war.
The tarlins are a military race, and the greatest honor for them is to become a Nightstar, a rank second only to the king and queen. This can be acheived by either earning it from the king, or killing a Nightstar and taking his place. Most officers of the tarlins have reached and held their rank only by defeating their opponents. In this way, the weaklings are kept out.
Another part of the tarlin life is the battlecat. These are huge creatures brought from some conquered world into Falandia. They are normally bestowed as gifts by the king, or queen, but an ocaisonal battlecat has a litter in the forest and if caught and trained early enough, the cubs are better fighters, then their tame counterparts. They can also be sold. One must remember, however, that the battlecats aren't truly tame, and it has been known for a battlecat to turn on his rider. Battlecats come in many different colors, sizes and shapes.
There are set ranks that all Tarlins obey.
King and Queen. These are, obviously the highest ranks. They rule over all the others, though they are only ever seen by the Nightstars, and are considered to be myth by some of the lower ranks.
Nightstar. These are the generals of the tarlin hierachy. They each have their own army, and often control a couple villages as well. There are never any more than ten Nightstars.
Sunflare. This is the Nightstar's assistant. Each Nightstar can have up to five Sunflares, chosen by him (or her).
Colonels. The next level down are the colonels. They watch over the soldiers, and generally manage the army. Each colonel has a troop of about twenty men. There are as many colonels are as needed in an army.
Soldiers. These are obviously, the lowest rank. They are the ones who carry out the menial tasks, and do most of the fighting. There is no limits to the number of soldiers in an army.
