Ryn Vaughban
Ryn Vaughban

Character Name: Ryn Vaughban
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Class: Dervish
Weapon: Ryn uses a spear and a flintlock pistol. The spear is all metal and about six feet long, with hide grips along the length of the midsection of the spear to protect the hands if the spear begins getting hot. The head of the spear is similar to a halberd. It can be used for both stabbing and slashing, with a wide bladed section that juts out from the tip of the spear.

Ryn has the flintlock for more heavily armed opponents or opponents who can out range the reach of his spear. It fires iron balls at high velocity with mediocre accuracy, and requires about half a minute for Ryn to reload. When he thinks that he will require the use of it, he will carry it primed on his body. He prefers to discharge it in as short of quarters as is prudent, to minimize chances of missing.

Armor/Clothing: Ryn has a small metal rimmed buckler that he occasionally uses, but has no other armor, relying on his speed and agility to keep himself out of trouble. Ryn's clothing is mostly a tan off-white color, which works as a small semblance of camouflage in his desert homelands. It is all loose fitting clothing, with distinguishing pieces being a viel that can be raised to cover his head and the lower part of his face, from the nose downward. He also has a small rawhide pack that he uses to store his traveling materials, and also functions as a holder for his shield and spear when not in use.

Commands:

ATTACK
FLINTLOCK/RELOAD
DERVISH TECH
ITEM

Flintlock/Reload - Self explanatory, either the firing of the excessively noisy and potentially deadly flintlock, or the act of spending the time to reload and prepare the gun for firing again.

Dervish tech-

Whirlwind slash - A sudden 360-degree spinning slash with the spear, intended to clear space around Ryn when fighting in larger groups.

Dragon fist - A short ranged projectile attack. Ryn concentrates his energy into his fist and launches a bolt of energy shaped like dragon towards the target. The impact would be as if Ryn had struck them himself.

Bloodburn - Note: This technique is considered forbidden. Ryn will not use it during ordinary fights, he only would use the technique if it was a matter of life or death, or some other very important situation. The bloodburn technique puts Ryn into a semi-beserker mode, granting him increased speed, strength, and stanima, but immediately begins harming him in return. The term 'Bloodburn' is not literal, but is appropriate. The increased abilities cause massive harm to his internal systems, with possibly fatal consequences. During bloodburn, Ryn's skin takes on a reddish hue, and any minor wounds will begin bleeding if they had stopped, and any other wounds will begin bleeding at a worse rate. He can sustain bloodburn safely for about 10 minutes when he is in good condition, other injuries would reduce the limit. Bloodburn's maximum surviveable time is 20 minutes. After bloodburn wears off, Ryn will need time to recover before he will be combat ready, that time being from several hours to several days, depending on his condition before and after initiating the technique, and the time spent in Bloodburn mode.

Mirror Dance: (requires Bloodburn) During this technique, Ryn moves so quickly that after images appear with his movements, adding on extra attacks in melee.

Blazing line: (require Bloodburn) This technique consists of Ryn madly dashing towards his intended target in a straight line, and continues onwards, only stopping to reposition himself for another charge.

Trance: Currently, Ryn is incapable of achieving the emotional state required to trance, and can only use the Bloodburn technique to open up his higher-end fighting potential.

Description/History: Ryn stands about 5'11" and is about 200 pounds. He is a quiet person, tending not to offer an opinion unless asked, and tends to himself, although he can usually be seen on the outskirts of large gatherings. He speaks what is in his mind, sometimes bluntly, but does not go out of his way to negatively comment on people. Ryn's fighting style relies on speed and precision rather then heavy armor and fortitude. He tends to prefer quick engagements, using hit and run tactics and cover that is available with the intent of either wearing down an opponent or finding some vital spot and focusing attacks on that. The flintlock is used to a much lesser extent, usually on opponents that are slower then he is.

Ryn was born into one of the in the desert wastelands of the Barren Island, to one of the nomadic tribes that wander through the deserts. Ryn was raised normally to be a fighter in the harsh environment of the wastelands, the only respite being the oasis or occasional forests that dot the landscape. Ryn was always slightly different from other fighters in the tribe, always one step behind, always slightly one second slow, seeming to lack the ability to fully dedicate himself to any sort of purpose or discipline and others in the tribe considered him to be addled or scatterbrained, because he was always thinking about 'frivolous' things, such as the types of plants in the oasis, the way that herds of prey animals behaved, and the lives of people in the villages in the oasises, which the Tribe usually avoided, unless they were stopping to trade. When he was 17, his curiosity finally overwhelmed himself, and he officially left the tribe, going into the life of the city.

His first experience in city life was a brutal disillusion to Ryn's idea of what life outside of the desert would be. Where he was used to a implied code of sharing and mutal cooperation to survive in a land with little resources, he was appaled by the apparent waste and corruption in the city, and was unprepared for the people who wandered the back streets of the city, the first encounter left him with a minor stab wound and a stay in the local prisonhouse after he brutally attacked the footpad who had tried to relieve him of any money that Ryn had possessed. After this incident, Ryn booked passage on a ship off of the island, not able to go back to his old life, and looking for someplace else to start over. Currently, he wanders the lands preferring warmer climates, looking for some way to prove himself.
