In Ancient times darkness claimed the land. It was a time of Chaos. A time of strife. A time of death. The dark gods ruled Norrath with a heartless iron fist. These dark beings were cruel, corrupt, and relished in the spilled blood of innocents. Reminders of the monstrous times are still reflected in Norrath today. The dead lands where no grass takes root, is a monument to where bodies once laced the fields..a message to all those who might oppose their gripping power. The norrathians lived in fear. In sadness. And without so much as a shimmer of hope...

The many races scattered across the lands searching desperately for food, for comfort, for a better life. What they discovered was starvation, hardship and death.

Just as plagues gripped the lands and fear filled the souls of many, glimmers of hope began to shine through the darkest of hours. It was the monks who first took notice of the prophetic signs. An ancient prophecy was starting to peak. It foretold of the child of light, a beacon that would rise like a phoenix burning in the night sky and dispelling the darkness. The Child at birth would have a mark, a symbol in the shape of a crescent moon Luclin upon thy back. The child would grow to have strength unmatched by any other and yet compassion deeper than any ocean...

Then alas, one eve when the moon shone red and lightning raced across the blanket of night, she was borne. Thunder shook the ground as the storm winds glided through the trees. A single star fell to Norrath and inside was the child. The monks knew that fate had arrived and the chosen one had been delivered.

The monks named the child Spirit. Her haunting youthful eyes glazed with an ancient wisdom. They trained her in the art of fighting, quickly she surpassed all of her masters. She could calm any beast, take away fear, and run upon the wind. Tales of the miraculous child spread like wildfire and hope began to take root. She inspired the people of all classes and all races to stand together and unite.

In her fifteenth season of life Spirit had already raised the greatest army for the mighty quest to purify the lands. As the army grew, hope and a reason to live was instilled into the hearts of the people. The casualties died bravely and were few in numbers. They stood side by side with Spirit and fought the evil gods restoring peace and life to the lands. Many long and harsh battles pursued the following months through all sorts of terrain. And yet they still found inner strength to keep moving and continue the good fight following their compassionate leader. No longer would the people of Norrath be starved, murdered, or live in fear The power of their numbers drew the evil gods back in defeat until at least victory was theirs.

In the last battle, Spirit smiled as her people cheered and rejoiced in happiness. Her destiny had been fulfilled. She watched in silence enjoying the moment. Her end was near, unbeknown to the others she had been pierced by a poison arrow during the battle. Spirit could feel death approaching as her life force was slowly draining away.

When she collapsed from exhaustion many ran to her side. In desperation and confusion they yelled for the cleric's. A deafyning silence fell over the crowd as they held their breathe. She knew there was nothing they could do. She motioned for her Shield of Marr's Promise. Spirit used the last of her strength and mana, her entire body began to glow with a luminous blue glimmer. As she placed her hand upon the shield it began to brighten as her light began to fade. The shield was given to her strongest ally and friend Bizni. Bizni became the first guild leader for Solace De L'Esprit.

Many began to weep as Spirit spoke, " Do not spend your tears upon me. Find strength in one another and never lose hope. My body may be.. dying..but I will always be with.." she whispered until she breathed no more. As cries of woe filled the night air, the people comforted each other in the hour of sadness for their fallen leader.

Bizni stood as a gentle mist began to fall, "Let us not be burdened by sadness. For Spirit would not want us to grieve but carry on her legacy instead. Our fallen hero is not lost but will remain in each and everyone of us for generations to come. We will never forget her bravery, her strength, or her unyielding compassion. We will feast in her honor this Eve and recount the tales of her miracles. And from this day forth we will be known as Solace De L'Esprit. The guardians of Luclin, guild." Bizni raised the Shield high above as the people broke into cheer and celebrated in honor of Spirit.

And that my comrades is how we became to be. The shield of Marr's Promise is passed down to the next guild leader. That is who we are... descendants of the hero's and warriors who returned peace to the land. And so our quest still, is to bring comfort to those in need, and protect the people. United we shine and stand as Guardians for Hope to all of Norrath.
