In this section is a more in-depth explanation of Antha Avanti, in case the logs and stories just weren't enough or confusing to the reader. I'm hoping it will explain her actions better.
Antha Avanti was born to a poor family with too many mouths to feed. She was sent to Ruelan, who owned and ran Oomura's biggest, well-known, and prosperous galatea. She was raised there to be a fighter. Ruelan quickly became a father to her. He passed away when she was just reaching young adulthood. This all lead to a feeling of inadequacy and abandonment--everyone in her life would leave her. She tries not to get too close or attached to anyone, but fails miserably with the arrival of Timothy. She becomes slightly, but not overzealously, obsessed with him when he loses interest and finds herself hurt again, cursing herself for being stupid for risking the pain again. Yet, this is her pattern. As much as she self-loathes when another person abandons her, she continues to reach out to others out of lonliness and a need to belong somewhere.
On Oomura and the surrounding Islands, the culture is not as rigid as in D'Image. Sex with many partners is not taboo, and most taboo things are not taboo here (with the exception of animals and defection and the like). Antha enjoys the act of sex, but uses the act in a subconscious attempt to get people to like her. She is an aggressive person who knows what she wants and goes after it, needing to be wanted and loved at the same time. Her outer layer is friendly, though somewhat having a barrier of protection. Underneath her armor is a lonely woman who fears she will never have a real connection with anyone.
As you must have picked up, Antha is attracted to knights and other "strong, brave" men. More accurately, she looks for "valiant" types who are a) attractive and b) a rebel of some sort. The more a man looks like trouble, the more she will pursue him (this is why she gets hurt). It's your classic "bad boy" complex, isn't it? Always wanting the exciting, break-all-the-rules, passionate rebel with a heart of gold that only a special woman can bring out. Pathetic, indeed.
Antha doesn't choose her friends. If there is chemistry between her and another person, she's friendly, open and fiercely loyal. She glosses over the faults of her friends, as she does most people, trying not to be negative. Everyone has their flaws and so does she.
