The RP/FF Zodiac Story
Battle 15: Belarius Hill
Party: X (Squire), Agrias (Holy Knight), Mustadio (Engineer), Silverwing (Monk), Yamcha (Knight), Lady Ayana (White Mage)
"Mercenaries in a place like this...that's just great."
As usual, X looks over the enemies and the topography he'll have to deal with. The battlefield is something like half a hill. The sides of the field remain at a mere 1-2h, while the field through the middle continually elevates to 10h. Still, it's manageable. What annoys X is the assortment of enemies. Two male knights, two male archers and two female summoners.
"Should've brought the soul sucking boy along...ah well."
X decides that the summoners are the more dangerous targets and sets his focus on them first. He goes down the right side of the hill to attack. Silverwing and Lady A follow right after him. Mustadio, with a gun, stays right where he is and takes aim at a knight. His bullet misses.
"Okay, this time, stay together!!"
Yamcha disregards X's suggestion and walks up the hill to attack a knight. The enemies shuffle around until the two archer find perches to charge their arrows on. X sighs, seeing Yamcha's actions, and turns his attention back to the summoner. He freaks, seeing that she's started her chanting. X jumps over her head and attacks from the back. While close ((just one more HP would've done it...)), the summoner still has enough strength to set Shiva loose on Silver. The freezing bits of ice and wind take their toll and knock her out.
"Raise might not work..."
Rather than take a 67% chance of failure with a Raise spell, Ayana opts to use a Phoenix Down instead, reviving Silverwing on the spot. Immediately, the monk uses Chakra to restore herself to fighting condition. A bullet whizzes right over this little scene and finds a place in the summoner X had already attacked. On the other side of the hill...
"Life's short! Bury! Stasis Sword!"
An archer falls victim to Agrias' Stasis Sword, but doesn't suffer too much and continues charging his arrow. With the knights, Yamcha has his hands full, barely managing to shield an incoming slash. He responds in kind with a slash of his own.
"Hah! Two on one is no sweat!"
The archers finish charging and let fly with the arrows aimed at the newly recovered monk. Silver sidesteps one, but the second arrow finds soft flesh to bite into. Continuing with the enemy assault, the second summoner finally makes her chanting audible, drawing X's attention. Shiva is summoned again to coat X in a storm of blistering cold. When finished, X has a large chunk of health bitten out of him, but he's still good for the road. Despite that though, Silvewing runs up to X's side and allows him to feel the splash effect of a second Chakra. And for good measure, Lady Ayana begins charging Cure 2 to sew up the remaining wounds.
"X, they're coming your way! Will ya be all right?"
"Yeah, no sweat. Just go after the archers!"
Even as X says this, he's being wrapped in a healing breeze of light while an knight is being killed in a case of holy energy. Yamcha complies and tuns over to a charging archer and attacks. The archer focuses on his task and fires an arrow at Agrias. The arrow pokes into her armor, but doesn't do too much harm.
Silver leaps up onto a rocky ledge of the hill and punches an archer in the face. It's only now that X realizes he's left a mage with no defense against knights. As he considers this, Lady A whaps a knight over the head with her staff. The hit is decent and she might even stand a chance on her own. Mustadio sees this and decides to attack the archer on the other end of the battlefield where Yamcha is fighting. The bullet tears into the ribcage of the poor archer and has him down for the count.
"Hmm? Oh, not again..."
Howling winds start up, earning Silver's moan. Shiva strikes once again, just nearly killing the monk. This time though, she survives. The archer near her dismisses her as a threat and aims over her head at Lady A. The arrow is just barely dodged, landing in her cloak, centimeters away from her lightly armored body. X continues with Silver's work and attack the archer in the back. Silver picks up where he leaves off and finishes off the weakened archer.
Yamcha has gotten over to the mana weary summoner and attacks. He hits strong, but not strong enough. On the other side of the field, Ayana attacks with her staff again. Mustadio still feels she'll be fine and shoots the summoner Yamcha is working on.
"It was a long battle, but we're almost done!"
X walks towards the summoner and picks a stone up off the ground. Looking behind himself during his wind up, he finds that the sole knight has torn Lady A's armor asunder, and sending a tear down her cloak in the process. X sweatdrops as he throws the stone at the summoner which bounces off her head, knocking her out.
"And here we go."
"You pervert!!"
One more swing of Lady A's staff results in a critical ((what an odd coincidence...)), ending the battle.
