Atroa (ah-TROH-ah) is one of the four Powers of the seasons. These are ancient Powers worshipped mostly now days only by the common folk. In the distant past these Powers were much more active and still are considered powerful in that they are the actual forces of the seasons, as much as personification. Early in Wearths past the four Powers of the Seasons (Atroa, Sotillion, Wenta, and Telchur) formed a single hierarchy, as all were part of Beory. Now it is rare to find any acting in concert.
Atroa is usually portrayed as a young women in her late teens to early twenties; though in some cases she has been portrayed as young as an eleven year-old. In either case, she always wears silken clothing and with flowers in her hair. She is the younger sister of the seasonal Powers.
Spring is the time that the world awakens from her slumber by the invigorating breath of the east wind. Spring brings new life and love to the world, renews old friendships, and pulls on the heartstrings of lovers, poets, and travelers. It is a time for old things to be repaired, old feuds to be buried, and old bias to be discarded. Like the dawn, it presages great things to come; look to them with an open mind and heart so that they may be enjoyed to the fullest.
The clerics of Atroa act as nurses and healers of the church, and the community at large, as well. Even forest animals, when wounded, have been known to seek out a cleric of Atroa; knowing instinctively somehow that they will be healed. Clerics conduct baptisms and also act as midwives. When a cleric of Atroa does act as a midwife, the child so born is considered greatly blessed; on occasion, they may even be asked to name the child. Clerics try to avoid combat unless an innocent life (including their own) is greatly threatened.
Only women are allowed to become clerics of Atroas order, as birth is viewed as a wholly feminine rite.
