Background
Ming was born in Hong Kong
in 2359 to retired Starfleet captain Chung Wang and his wife Connie. Upon
graduating high school, Ming entered the University of Beijing, majoring
in physics, but later applied to and was accepted at Starfleet Academy
after finding Beijing's curriculum not challenging enough.
Ming entered Starfleet Academy in 2378 and graduated in 2381 with highest
honors. His first assignment was to the science vessel USS Von Braun where
he did extensive research into artificial and natural wormholes. Though
Ming's research has primarily focused on astronomy and subspace physics,
he is also a recognized expert in a number of other fields including artificial
intelligence, genetic engineering, and exoarchaeology.
A brilliant scientist, Ming
is nonetheless somewhat socially inept, fitting the classic "absent-minded"
scientist stereotype. He has a well-developed if perverse and not always
appropriate sense of humor.
Speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese
and Vulcan
Ming is recognized as a kung
fu master but does not typically show off his skills unless the need presents
itself. Ming also enjoys playing music but his skills here are somewhat
less than his scientific or martial arts skills.
 Though
human, most of Ming's previous romantic attractions have been toward non-human
women. Ming likes to party but can't generally hold his liquor.
