Harry Potter In The Muggle World

Harry's History

October 10, 2001

New information about Harry Potter's past is to be released in the movie. This is authorized information originally intended for the first book.

‘A few things are missing,’ Columbus explains, ‘obviously we had to edit or else the film would have been six hours long.’ Then he adds a little snippet that’s bound to have Potter fans bashing down the door of their nearest cinema come release time. Asked whether there’s anything new in the film, Columbus tells Empire that ‘[JK Rowling] did a little piece for us that wasn’t in the first book but she had written it and she authorised it and it’s in there and it’s a little secret that you won’t expect to see.

Harry Potter V Delayed

JK Rowling's next Harry Potter book will have to be delayed!

"...Bloomsbury, finally admitted yesterday that the fifth Harry Potter book would not be published this year...A spokesman said it was now "very unlikely" that the book would appear before 2002. It has yet to see a word of the manuscript...'She's writing like mad, but there's no way the book will be ready for July.'...she now feels entitled to take a break from the pressure, she added."

Harry Potter Wand Order Mystery

Date: January 12, 2001

To err is human. But to correct surreptitiously is fishy, especially to Harry Potter fans.

In July, careful British and American readers of J.K. Rowling's children's fantasy series took immediate notice of that appeared in the fourth installment, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." The mistake concerned the order of Harry's parents' emergence from villainous Lord Voldemort's wand in the novel's climactic scene. In the previous Potter books, Rowling makes it quite clear that Voldemort killed first James and then Lily Potter. In "Goblet of Fire," however, the ghosts of the evil wizard's victims emerge from his deadly wand, we are told, in the reverse order in which they were killed, yet James steps out of the wand before Lily.

This led many of Rowling's most ardent fans to speculate that the discrepancy was intentional, a plot twist to be picked up in Harry Potter V, a notion that sent readers' imaginations running wild and inspired innumerable theories ... All of this conjecture, Potter fans now realize, is in vain. Recent editions of "Goblet of Fire" now describe Lily as emerging from the wand before James ...While the news proved disappointing to Rowling's fans, the way in which the correction was handled incited anger and frustration among list members ..."We don't believe that Rowling wrote this correction because, for one thing, Lily's name is spelled wrong. They spelled it L-i-l-l-y. It comes out lame the way they changed it." ... "Did she actually correct it, or did she just say, 'Oh jeez, we got it wrong. Go ahead and change the words'?"

The wand thing was a mistake! Awww...

Support the victims!

A lot of my favorite Harry Potter sites have domain names... AHHH!

If those sites go down because of this, I'll refuse to watch the movie when it comes out!

Trophies For The Upcoming Movie!

The Quidditch cup was on full display, engraved with the names of two previous seekers, the position Harry plays for the Gryffindor team. We also grabbed shots of both Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff house emblems and if you look closely at the corners of the trophy cabinet you can also make out those for Gryffindor and Slytherin. A huge hog, which is most likely the emblem for the school was also evident, as well as a backdrop for what must be the Hogwarts lake, providing a sweeping vista for young Harry’s arrival at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Why is Riddle's name spelled wrong though?

Rowling on Good and Evil

At the approach of Halloween, we asked the author of the Harry Potter books what she thinks children should know about good and evil, magic and mayhem. Why did her series take a dark turn in this year's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Scholastic), for example?
