Uses for the Split Form
Technique
I could see an argument that
Piccolo and Tien's amazing Split Form Technique is actually
fairly useless; I mean, come on, it only divides your power into
different bodies! (Note: this article also works for spells like
Doppelganger in Rifts and such).
However, under creative
analysis, this argument does not stand up. Even within the
context of the show, uses show up. For one, Piccolo uses Split
Form Technique to train against himself within the Hyperbolic
Time Room.
Of course, the small selection
of characters in DBZ who know the technique (Piccolo, Tien, Cell)
are obviously not the only people who could use it. And each
individual character obviously has different uses. I won't list
all or even many of them; for one, my feeble imagination :=)
could not think of all of them, and I want to let players
innovate. One excellent example, however, is what Dark Fred calls
Divide & Conquer. When using this combination of moves, he
splits up and lets his enemy annihilate one of his bodies. He
then nails them with their own energy from 3 DF's using Strife
& Skirmish!
However, I will list a few
generic uses.
- One of the fairly obvious
uses is the ability to be multiple places at once. This
even holds true in combat. Take this scenario: Tien,
pumped with power, hunts down a main enemy that needs to
be tracked down before he escapes. Without Split Form, he
could be held off by weaker enemies long enough for him
to escape (we see some forms of this, such as Cell using
Solar Flare to escape from the combined might of Gohan,
Kamicollo and Krillin, despite their obvious
superiority). But with Split Form, he could have 2 or 3
bodies handle some defenders while a fourth handles the
escaping enemy.
- Another usage is to fight
multiple people. This is simple: even if you could handle
each enemy individually with great ease, all of them
attacking at once could lead to your defeat. With Split
Form, a powerful combatant can handle 4 enemies at one
time without having to worry about all of their attacks.
- A great usage is to do
things that don't require a level of power. The Divide
& Conquer example is perfect: S&S changes little
with power. Another good one is curing. You could have a
level 1 using Elixirs, and he would be just as useful as
a level 99 using Elixirs. This leads to people using
Split Form to heal party members quickly.
