Welcome to the Browser Test page. Here you will find a mixed display of different
browser technologies used on our site to show if your browser is compatible. There are also a few
additional displays to give you some general info about your browser. If your browser doesn't pass the
tests, and you wish to update it by downloading either Internet Explorer (which this site is designed
and optimised for) or Netscape Communicator. For more information on any of the below technologies,
please see the Glossary of Terms page. The first test is of your browsers CSS compatibility. The below text should be some red text with a light blue background. If your browser cannot display CSS, then it will show a heading with no background colour and not centred showing "CSS not recognised!". CSS
not recognised! Some Red Text Next we will do a test of your browsers VBScript
compatibility. Typically, only Microsoft browsers will support this. If successfull, you will see a
message displaying "VBScript is enabled and working!". If unsuccessful, old browsers should show
"VBScript not recognised by this browser!", while newer non-complient browsers will show nothing.
Here we will list your browsers Javascript version and if it is enabled on your
system. This should work on all Java-enabled browsers. It should "Your browsers JavaScript version
is:", and "Java Enabled:". If not, your browser will display "Java Version script not recognised by
this browser!". Your browsers Java version is: || Java enabled: Here we
will list your browser type and version, as well as your systems IP Address and Host Name. The type and
version script should work on all Java-enabled browsers, however the IP Address and Host Name scripts
will only work with Netscape browsers. It should show "Browser:" and "Version:" for the first script
and "Your Computers Hostname is: " and "Your IP Address is: " for the second. If not, your browser will
display "Type/Version script not recognised by this browser!".
The below scripts will show you your screen's resolution details. These include your
screen width, height and depth. Most browsers will show 5 details which will look like this: "Your
screen color depth is:", "Your screen width is:", "Your screen height is:", "Your viewable width is:"
and "Your viewable height is:". If not, your browser will display "Screen Resolution script not
recognised by this browser!", or may show some details blank. The next section displays a list of plug-ins installed
on your system for your browser. As above, if successfull, you will see
text displaying "The following plug-ins are installed on your system:"
followed by the installed plug-ins. If there are no plug-ins for your
browser installed, you will see nothing. Old browsers will show "Plug-In
script not recognised by this browser!", while newer non-compliant
browsers may show nothing. Now we will test your computer's QuickTime 5
compatability. If you see the blue QuickTime logo below left, then
QuickTime is properly installed. If you do not see the QuickTime logo,
check the Apple plug-in help page for more information. The QuickTime
logo bottom right will test the streaming functionality of QuickTime 5. If
you see an animated QuickTime logo (clock hand turning around) then all is
OK. If not, there may be a problem with the way your network is
configured. See Apple's Firewalls and QuickTime for help. The QuickTime support
area can also provide more help. And lastly three simple ones to finalise the tests.
These should work on all Java-enabled browsers. It should show "The number
of web pages you have vistited this session in this window is:", "The day,
date, time and time zone you are in is:" and "The page that referred you
here was:". If not, your browser will display "Referrer/Session/Date/Time
script not recognised by this browser!". Last Updated: 3rd December 2002. Copyright
