The Man in the Mirror
The Man in the Mirror

Spinning and spinning and spinning around
Like a jester’s top but making no sound.
With each twist of my heart and pull on your strings
Appearing to say a great many things.
Life is a game that you play so well,
Enchanting me with your everyday spell.
Feeling so helpless and feeling so weak.
I’m waiting to hear the moment you speak.
Using the mirror you hold to reflect,
My expectations are shown to a greater effect.
Grasping that image so tightly to you,
Blood runs down and it frightens me too.
I’m ashamed of things that I’ve seen you do,
Then you turn around and the mirror shifts too.
I don’t think I know you as well as I thought.
Your actions conflict all the comfort you brought.
Tell me what the mirror does,
Why do you hide behind it?
Will no one ever see who you really are?
What is it you think,
That no one should ever see?
One day will you please show it to me?
The mirror you see as your only protection,
Feeling a need for that very deception.
Each little lie and each little sin,
Leading to something deeper within.
You are the man that that I once thought was the same
And yet then again I’m partly to blame.
Something within you has entirely changed,
The man that I love now appears very strange.
I’m wishing to hear and I’m hoping to learn,
What do you feel is important to burn
Open your mouth and pour forth with words,
Let them fly from your mouth like so many birds.
Let me inside that heart of yours,
Show that emotion, be rid of those sores.
Tell me the truths that your mirror now hides,
Learn that the world is not cut-and-dried.
Tell me what the mirror does,
Why do you hide behind it?
Will no one ever see who you really are?
What is it you think,
That no one should ever see?
One day will you please show it to me?
Something within you intrigues me so much,
What is this mask that you use as a crutch?
What is this thing you are hiding from me?
What do you hold that the world cannot see?
