The Celtic Key

Name: Xander

Age: 19

Appearance:

At nearly six feet tall, with a well toned body kept in shape from a vigorous kung fu routine, Xander is a very handsome man His dark, spiky hair complements his well-tanned complection although he has never spent a day in the sun. His green eyes light up when he smiles or is feeling mischievous or rebellious, and they also give his moods away easily. Being raised by Irish or Scotsmen has given him an accent indigenous to that area.

History:

He does not know who his parents are, only that they are of Irish nobility. As an infant, he was kidnapped by a rival family and sold to slavers. The slavers knew he would fetch a high price if he were well trained and sold to the palace. Because of this, he was raised to be a key, and therefore was never allowed contact with anyone other than his trainers. They raped him often, which has imbued him with a fear of men. Xander was sold to the palace when he was fifteen and has enjoyed life at the palace much more than life with his captors.

Personality:

Xander tends to be quiet, not because it is his nature, but because he is afraid to speak. His only true passion is for kung fu, where he is an expert with hand-to-hand combat and weaponry. He would be quick to laugh at jokes and fun-loving if he were given an atmosphere where he could be himself without fear of repercussions. He is a fast learner and very observant of the world around him. He has a talent for mimicking the actions and mannerisms of the people around him. He can also judge people to know what response they wish from him.

Clothing:

Xander wears what is comfortable. He has tunics and trousers in many colors, materials, and styles, as well as knee-high boots to match. However, he tends to wear only his sparring pants (silk pants that are baggy until the ankles where they are tied off as to not impede movement) and prefers to be barefoot.

Environment:

His rooms at the palace are opulent and resemble what he would have been privileged to, had he been raised within his family. Upon entering his suite, there are three doorways off the main room. The main room doubles as a library and is filled with books of all types. A molding formed from Celtic knot work surrounds the top of the main room, as well as the other rooms. A large fireplace dominates the wall directly opposite the door. A large armchair sits before the fireplace with a small table beside it. Near the fireplace is a wooden table where Xander takes his meals. There are two chairs, but one is always empty.

The room to the right is his bedchamber. There is another fireplace in the bedchamber, also situated directly across from the door. The room is usually lit by a multitude of candles that are place all about the room. In here, there is also an armchair before the fire. A screen patterned with Celtic knots and a large Celtic styled cross in the center panel hides a portion of the room from the rest. It is intended to use for dressing, but Xander does not see the point. It stands as decoration. A large armoire stands near the screen and holds all his clothing. The bed occupies most of the space in the room. It is a large four-poster that stands nearly as tall as the ceiling with two layers of curtains surrounding it. The innermost is a sheer that allows light in and is also used to keep out the chill on warm evenings. The outer layer is a heavy brocade materiel that keeps heat and darkness in, chill and light out.

There are two rooms to the left. One is kept for his kung fu. The floor is plain--cream colored padding so that Xander will not hurt himself on the occasions that he has a sparring partner. Here he can practice and keep himself in shape.

The other room is his bathing chamber. There is a shower stall to the right of the door and a large bathtub takes up the majority of the small chamber. Water spills over a ledge like a waterfall to fill it. The room, like his bedchamber, is lit mostly by candles. Most of the ceiling is a skylight to let in either the daytime sun or the starlight. This is the only place where Xander can see natural light. He is not allowed outside except on rare occasions. Incidentally, he spends many hours staring at the sky from his bathtub.
