Konami is a company that represents quality, of course they have had a few misses(Contra on PSone). They surely make that up with Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, and Suikoden. I anticipated Z.O.E and why not, it looked good, featured cool looking mechs and included the Klan's top favorite game:Metal Gear Solid 2. On a visual view, this game represents what the PS2 should look like. The camera, majoridy of the time keeps focus on the action in a intelligent matter. Jehuty and the other mechs look great too, and the lighting is the icing on the cake. Wait a minute though because the graphics are not entirely perfect, the backgrounds could have used a little more diversity. I guess it was the intentions of the creators too enchance the dark atomosphere, but I personaly like variety and it grew on me to continously see drabby cities. Also the CG work was a little rough, not matching up to Konami's efforts with Silent Hill, a PSone game of all games. Still I found the game to actually impress me alot more than shall we say The Bouncer. Story-wise, I really felt that so much more could have been done. Its not bad by any means, its just told in a way thats more preached than in a natural, and fun way. The story follows a young boy named Leo who one day comes across Jehuty and goes on a major killing spree to defend himself against a attack of enemy raptors(no not the dinosaurs). He meets a young girl and speaks to ADA, the computer within Jehuty and learns how to use Jehuty's true potential to fight against the evil for the greater cause. Yeah its a very uninsprired story thats told thru a forced pace. This game suffers one other problem, its too damn short, and the gameplay doesn't span too far other than simple objectives like defending a town or eradicating a certain number of enemies. It does play well with very good controls that are laid out perfectly. Z.O.E.'s biggest attention grabber is obvioulsy the amazing demo of the much anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2, and I still debate with Krispy if its worth the price of admission. Which the demo is crazy-cool, but I wouldn't depart with the money just for the demo. Rather you want a good arcade experience to play on your PS2, or if you want to play a Virtual On game on steroids. Maybe its a buy, other than that, I suggest a try from your local Blockbuster or other rental place.
Rating=7.5Cons=Too short, limited skills availible, slow-paced story, and ADA(annoying) |
