Goku- Goku, having been killed along with Radditz by Piccolo's Makankosappo (Special Beam Cannon), is wished back to Earth from King Kai's small planet. Goku, has only a short amount of time to travel back along Snake Way before the battle begins against the two evil Saiyajns that have arrived on Earth, Nappa and Vegeta. Goku uses the training from Kai to reach the end of Snake Way quickly, where he is then transported by Kami to Kami's Lookout. From there, Goku races to the edge and jumps off. As he falls, he passes Korrin's Tower where he yells for a few senzu beans and eats one to replenish his strength for the upcoming battle.

Gohan and Krillin- While waiting for Goku to arrive, all the Z fighters, except for Gohan and Krillin, have perished during the battles with the Saibamen and Nappa. The two remaining fighters both attempt to hold off Nappa but are severely injured. Goku arrives on the scene and gives each of them half of the remaining senzu bean.

Goku- After defeating Nappa, Goku faces of against Vegeta. Vegeta brutally injures Goku, but with the help of Krillin and Gohan, Vegeta is defeated. Since Piccolo was one of the fighters that were killed, the Dragon Balls disappeared. Krillin, Gohan, and Bulma, set out for the Planet Namek, where they hope to find the Namek Dragon Balls so that they can wish their friends back. Goku, who is recovering from the injuries that he sustained in the battle, is left to follow the group later. This time, an even more powerful villain has appeared, Frieza. Goku begins his training within his spaceship, using several senzu beans to replenish his strength faster.

Gohan, Krillin, and Vegeta- Gohan, Krillin and Bulma arrive on Namek only to find an unbelievably cruel villain is also searching for the Dragon Balls. Just as they thought that things were bad, Vegeta arrives on the planet with the same goal in mind. Gohan and Krillin eventually join with Vegeta and speed to where Vegeta has hidden the dragon balls he managed to steal from Frieza. Unfortunately, before the three can make a wish, Frieza's elite fighting team, the Ginyu Force arrives and returns the Dragon Balls to Frieza's ship. The three fighters are left to battle with the powerful members of the Ginyu Force. Guldo is the first to fight and although Krillin and Gohan are winning, he is able to use his powers to gain the upper hand. Luckily, just as they are getting ready to be killed, Vegeta intervenes and kills Guldo. Next the three fighters must take on the massive Recoome. The three are no match for the fighter and are injured by the time Goku arrives on the scene. Upon seeing his friend's and son's condition, Goku gives them each, one of the remaining senzu beans. Then, surprising Krillin and Gohan, Goku also gives Vegeta one, thinking that he will be able to help them in the upcoming battle.

Yamcha- Three years pass from the time that Trunks warns the Z Fighters of the Android threat. The group gathers at the location that Trunks predicted the Androids would appear. Time passes and there is no sign of any threat until Yajirobe's airplane is blasted out of the sky. The fighters are shocked when the Androids enter the nearby city and they are unable to detect their power levels. Knowing that many may be injured, the group splits up to search the city for the deadly Androids. Not knowing what the Androids look like, Yamcha stumbles upon them and as he makes the attempt to warn his friends, he is grabbed and silenced by Android 20. As the Android drains the life from Yamcha's body, the others sense his dropping power level and race to his location. Unfortunately, they do not arrive in time to stop the Android from punching a hole through Yamcha's chest. When the others arrive, Goku instructs Krillin to take Yamcha back to where Bulma is waiting and to give him a senzu bean. Yamcha, carried by Krillin, is able to eat the bean and recovers.

Goku- Goku convinces the Androids to follow him to a location where there will be less chance for innocent people to be injured. When they arrive, the others notice that Goku seems to be tired out from the short trip and wonder what is going on. As the battle with Android 19 begins, Goku seems to be winning, but as the fight progresses it is definite that something is wrong. The Android quickly gains the upper hand as Goku begins to have severe chest pain. The group realizes that Goku has been struck with the heart virus that Trunks predicted. They give Goku a senzu bean in the attempt to restore his power, but Goku quickly is beaten down and drained by the Android. Luckily, Vegeta attacks the Android, giving enough time for Yamcha to take Goku home to get the medicine that Trunks gave him.

Vegeta- When Vegeta begins his battle with Android 19, he surprises everyone when he transforms into a Super Saiyan. As confident as ever, Vegeta attacks the Android. Just as it looks like Vegeta is going to win, he allows the Android to grab his arms. The Android begins to drain Vegeta's power while the Saiyajin asks him if he thinks he can hold him. Placing his feet on the Android, Vegeta is able to rip the hands from its arms. No longer able to consume his opponent's energy, Android 19 attempts to escape. He soon realizes that his attempt is futile when Vegeta uses his Big Bang Attack to destroy him. Vegeta then challenges Android 20, who is dazed over Vegeta's power. Android 20 chooses to escape and after he leaves, Vegeta asks for a senzu bean. His challenge to Android 20 was really a bluff, and he needed the bean to restore all the energy he lost when Android 19 drained him.

Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, Trunks- After Android 20 returns to the lab and releases Androids 17 and 18, he is killed and Trunks attempts to destroy the lab and the Androids along with it. The two new Androids are not affected by the blast and release Android 16 and leave. Vegeta, who challenged them and was ignored, pursues them. He catches up to them and is almost killed by Android 18. The other fighters arrive and attempt to stop the Androids. Android 17, who warned them not to interfere, injures all but Krillin, who does not join in the fight. Krillin gives them all senzu beans to restore their energy after the Androids leave the scene.

Trunks- During the Trunks Special, Gohan, who is training Trunks, takes the young Saiyajin with him to battle with the Androids. Trunks is not yet ready to fight and is injured by Android 18. Luckily, Gohan intervenes and attempts to escape. Unfortunately, the Androids blast the surrounding area and Gohan and Trunks are caught in the explosion. Gohan, having lost an arm, drags himself to the side of the unconscious Trunks. He manages to get his bag of senzu beans out but finds that there is only one left. He chooses to give it to Trunks and collapses unconscious. Trunks recovers and must carry the severely injured body of Gohan back to his mother, who nurses him back to health.

Cell- Cell, having absorbed Androids 17 and 18 to reach his perfect form, battles and defeats Vegeta. Trunks, challenges him and is doing well until he transforms into his Ultra Super Saiyan form. In this form, he is more powerful but too slow and is quickly defeated by Cell. Disappointed in his opponents, Cell announces the Cell Games and challenges any fighter that is powerful enough to fight him for the fate of the Earth. At the announced date and location, the Z fighters arrive and Goku, who has recovered from his heart virus, is the first to enter the ring. He fights against Cell and seems to be evenly matched. Goku then surprises everyone by quitting the fight and announcing that his son, Gohan, is the one the will defeat the evil Cell. Just before the fight begins, Goku again shocks everyone by giving the evil villain a senzu bean so that he can begin the fight with his full power restored.

Vegeta, Trunks, Yamcha, Krillin, Piccolo, Goku- As the battle with Gohan begins, the young Saiyan reveals that when he gets enraged, he becomes extremely powerful. Cell, wanting to see this awesome power, begins to beat Gohan in the attempt to anger him. When this does not work, Cell steals the bag of senzu beans and produces seven miniature duplicates of himself and orders them to attack the other fighters. The seven Cell Jrs attack Gohan's friends and almost destroy them. Goku finally is angered enough, when Cell crushes the head of the demolished Android 16, to reach a new level of Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan Form 2. In this form, Gohan is extremely fast and powerful. He easily takes back the bag of senzu beans and destroys all the Cell Jrs. Afterwards, he gives the bag of senzu beans to Trunks who gives one to each of the Z fighters.

Videl- During the Tournament, Videl is matched against the Babidi controlled, Supopobitchi. During the fight, Supopbitchi proceeds to beat the crap out of Videl, who refuses to give up. He tortures her enough to hurt her but not enough to put her out of the competition or the ring. Supopobitchi, continually punches Videl in order to get Gohan angry enough to transform into a Super Saiyan when they fight. When this occurs, Supopobitchi intends to steal his energy for Babidi's plan to resurrect Majiin Buu. Supopobitchi eventually kicks Videl out of the ring and she is taken to get medical treatment. Gohan, goes to his father and asks him to use his Instaneous Movement to get a senzu bean from Korrin. Once Goku returns, Gohan gives the bean to Videl, who recovers almost instantly.

Majiin Vegeta- Once Vegeta, Goku and Gohan enter Babidi's lair, they face off against Pui Pui and Dabura. During the battle between Gohan and Dabura, the evil villain, who is winning, calls off the battle and returns to Babidi with a new plan. Upon seeing traces of evil within Vegeta, Dabura suggests that Babidi make him a slave. Babidi agrees and uses his magic to enslave Vegeta. Vegeta, now Majiin Vegeta, challenges Goku to a battle. The two are transported away from Babidi's fortress and the battle begins. While Goku and Majiin Vegeta fight, Majiin Buu is released and begins to wreak havoc on the surrounding cities, consuming more power. Vegeta and Goku agree to stop the fight in order to deal with Buu, but Vegeta knocks out Goku as he reaches for his senzu beans. Vegeta eats one of the senzu beans and goes to battle Buu on his own.
