Bulma is one of the more difficult characters to do a progressions
page on. She changes so much during the series in appearance and
in attitude. During the Dragon Ball series, Bulma has a lot of
instances where she changes her clothing and hairstyle. There
will be a more detailed write up on this series in the future.
We first meet Bulma during Dragon Ball as
she searches for the keys to her one wish. It is as she searches
for the dragon balls that she meets Goku for the first time. She
uses Capsule Corps technology to locate and acquire the mystical
spheres. She wears her hair up in a bow with a braid down her
back. She is very young but headstrong and fearless.
As the series progresses, Bulma is seen wearing
other outfits and basically goes about revealing herself off and
on during the rest of the series. She sports a small ponytail
off the side of her head during part of the series. But it differs
slightly from the later version of the same style. She also changes
her hair color several time.

Dragon Ball Z
Bulma's first appearance in Dragon Ball Z
is during the first episode of the Radditz saga, when she meets
Goku as an adult and is introduced to his son on Roshi's island.
She has abandoned her revealing attire for a more mature look.
Her hair is cut short and she wears a whit jacket over white shorts
and a blue top. Her style is more sporty but she keeps the same
confidence and fearlessness.
After Goku and Piccolo destroy Radditz, Bulma
has a short time where she sports a longer hairstyle. This only
lasts for a very short while.
The next threat that the Earth must deal with
is the arrival of two awesomely powerful Saiyajins, Nappa and
Vegeta. Goku, who has been training at King Kai's, has yet to
arrive back on the Earth. Piccolo, Tien, Chaotzu, Yamcha, Krillin
and Gohan now must face the two powerful warriors. During the
battle, Yamcha, Tien, Chaotzu, and Piccolo are killed but luckily
Goku returns to Earth and defeats Nappa and Vegeta. Unfortunately,
the dragon balls have disappeared with Piccolo and Kami's death.
Bulma, Gohan and Krillin set out for Planet Namek in order to
wish back their friends using the dragon balls from Kami's home
world. Bulma makes another appearance change, cutting her hair
and wearing a red headband. She also changes her clothing, this
time wearing a space outfit that allows her to maneuver around
the Namek ship easily.
Upon arriving at Namek, Bulma wears an orange
vest and skirt, blue/black leggings and boots. She continues to
wear this outfit throughout her ordeals on Namek.
After being wished back to Earth, along with
the remaining Nameks, Bulma opens her home to the refugees. Bulma
and the others must wait during this time in order for the Namek
dragon balls' power to be restored. During this time she grows
her hair out extremely long while waiting to wish her friends
back. It is at this time, when they make the attempt to wish Goku
back from the dead that they learn that he survived the explosion
of Namek but does not wish to return to Earth yet.
During the time that the Z fighters wait for
Goku to return, Vegeta, who has been searching for Goku in space,
returns to Earth. Bulma hair is a mass of curls, held back with
a blue head band. She quickly puts Vegeta in his place, much to
the surprise of Yamcha and the others. She wears a long-sleeved
short red dress and an orange vest. Her curiosity and determination
are evident in her dealings with Vegeta's spoiled nature and her
insistence in seeing Frieza's return for herself.
After Future Trunks departure, at least one
of his predictions has come to pass. Bulma indeed hooks up with
Vegeta and they have a child, baby Trunks. She has again changed
appearances, having short, straight hair again. Her figure is
more motherly and she wears a plain shirt and Capri pants. Her
determination to be involves still remains as she insists on being
present during the battle with the androids. It is she that recognizes
Android 20 as Dr. Gero and relays the approximate whereabouts
of his lab.
After Future Trunks returns and Dr. Gero has
released and been killed by his creations, Androids 17 and 18,
Bulma learns of the wreckage of a machine that looks much like
Trunks' time machine. She wears Capsule Corps. attire and a baseball
cap during the investigation of the mysterious ship and strange
egg case that is found there.
During the Buu saga, Bulma's hair gets a little
shorter and she wears a red dress and yellow scarf during the
Tenkaichi Budoukai.
Dragon Ball GT
During Dragon Ball GT, Bulma's hair gets even
shorter as she is older and has grown children. She gets turned
into a zombie of Bebi's and helps to build the devise that allows
her husband to reach Super Saiyajin Level 4.
Trunks Special
During the battles with the Androids, Bulma
is seen older and just as wise. She creates a Time Machine that
will allow her son, Trunks, to travel to the past to save Goku
who is going to die from a heart virus. She tries to keep Trunks
from fighting but is fully aware that he is being trained by Gohan.
She nurses both Gohan and then her son after they are both injured
by the Androids.
