Melantho's History

I'll have it up soon as this section is new, it was Yalgar's idea.

Yalgar's History

It was a cold, dark night in the desert. I awoke to a gentle breeze coming in from the north. The sound of an Alpha Male howling is what I presume woke me up, as I could still hear him. I did not know where I was, only that it appeared desolate and far from civilization. I did not know how I ended up here. My memory was a bit distorted, but there were a few things that I could make out…

My name is Yalgar. The only reason I know this is that there was a nametag embroidered into the shirt that I woke up in. Though my past is unclear, I remember a few things. I had been a faithful Omni-Tek employee for as many years as I could remember. I worked in a laboratory on Rubi-ka where I experimented with the plentiful amounts of Notum to see what products I could produce. Don’t ask me how I remember this, but there was one night that I stayed at work late to finish an experiment for a presentation I had with the executive board the following morning. This is the last night I can recall, and it was one that changed my life.

I was being asked to test the effects of melted-down Notum ore on various wild creatures in an attempt to biologically enhance them. I never questioned my superiors, but I did wonder what they hoped to gain by enhancing leets. Then all of the sudden, there was an explosion. To this day I do not know what set it off, but I had not combined any substances nor was I currently experimenting. Sometimes I wonder if some activists were trying to halt my work, but I will most likely never know. I was knocked out cold, but not before I saw someone dressed in a black Omni uniform rush into the room.

My last memory is of being on an examination table with numerous doctors around me, but then my memory blanks. I do not know if I sustained any injuries, nor do I know what the doctors were doing. Now here I am lying in the desert with no idea what to do. I do not recall any friends, family, or relatives. I do not know why, but I have no idea why I was working for Omni-Tek or why I was abandoned out here. I’m lucky I know my name, but that’s about all I know. I have no idea what my age is or where I live. There is only one thought in my mind, and that is one of hate.

I now have an intense hatred towards Omni-Tek. I was a small time scientist, and my lab was destroyed, so obviously no one there would remember me. If they were trying to erase my existence, then obviously any friends or family I had would have been dealt with. Just the idea of people I was close to being eliminated infuriated me, even though I didn’t remember them. I stood up and starting walking. I had no idea what direction I was heading in, but eventually I came upon a city known as West Athens. I learned that there was a rebellion going. I must have been unconscious forever! There was no rebellion when I was working for Omni-Tek. I did not ask how long the rebellion had been going on, as the answer would only twist my past more. I set myself up with an apartment for the time being, and decided to collect my thoughts.

I found that I still had a knack for manipulating nanos. I frightened a few people when I accidentally set a small plant on fire, but luckily none of them knew it was my fault. I spent the next several days trying learning to control this power, and decided that I would need to find work, so being a nano-technician seemed like a good idea. I still enjoyed tinkering with body implants and these nano crystals that seemed to be everywhere.

Now we are in the present. I have learned to be a fully functional Rebel and a helpful member of the community. One day I hope to uncover my past, but it is not a top priority. I am greatly enjoying my current life style and I do not wish to spoil it. All I know is that Omni-Tek is an evil corporation and I will do everything within my power to stop them from ruining peoples lives, like they attempted to do with me.

Zaphoid's History

I was born in Borealis to a proud mother and father. Both mom and dad had very strong Opifex traits and it was no suprise that these traits were strong in me also. I don't remember Borealis but my dad said we moved north after I was born to get further away from the war that was beginning around us. I grew up a healthy little boy in a happy family until the day it ended. Omni-Tek invaded the outpost where my family was staying. We were in the middle of dinner when the door was broken down and two Omni soldiers entered our one-room shack.

Up until that very second I had considered my dad a non-violent person. We had no guns in our shack and I had never seen my dad hurt another person. We lived under the protection of the rebel side but distanced ourselve from the new war. But when the Omni soldiers broke in, I saw my dad jump to life like I had never seen him before. Within one second his foot had cracked the metaplast armor helmet of one of the soldiers, sending his gun flying. Before that soldier hit the floor, my dad was already on top of the other one. I had seen men fight before, but it was strange the way my dad was fighting. My dad's right hand made one unique thrust to the remaining soldier's neck. It was obvious the soldier could no longer breath but unfortunately his gun was still in his hand and bullets were flying everywhere. My dad was injured by a stray bullet to his leg but my mom was not so fortunate - she took a bullet directly in her heart to save me. I was only 6 years old at the time but for some reason I remember it all very clearly. At my early age I had already begun to learn the feelings of hate and revenge but I would learn how to control those feelings soon enough...

In the coming weeks, my dad healed himself. I remember him becoming a different person after mom was killed. There was a fire burning in his eyes and I knew something was on his mind. One day after an inspection of his bullet wound, he said to me "Zaph my boy, it is time. I've got something to show you. Pack your belongings, we're going north." We must have traveled for a month. We had left the terraformed area of Rubi-Ka long ago, and we marched endlessly through the dry red sand. Air was scarce out here and our breathing equipment was working overtime.

On the 32nd day of our trip, I noticed a small bush as we walked over the top of a sand dune. Then I saw a few more bushes and a small tree over the top of the next. At the crest of the next sand dune, my dad removed his breathing gear and said "We're here." We came to a clearing at the center of the oasis. This clearing had a large circular design in the middle with a black and white swirl. My dad dropped his packs and looked into my eyes. "Zaph, my little one, your training begins today." Soon I begin to understand how my dad was able to kill those Omni soldiers at home. My dad taught me how to fight, like his dad had before him and the yin-yang symbol had somehow had brought focus to my life. Gone were the feelings of hate and revenge against Omni-Tek... and in their place was a new purpose of bringing peace and harmony to Rubi-Ka. I would still have to fight, but it would be done with a clear and focused mind.

I was 18 years old when my dad was killed by an Omni thug in much the same way my mom was. As we rested in our camp, the distant sound of a small twig breaking had brought us to attention. The next sound we heard was a gunshot. I had jumped to my feet and dealt with the thug without any problem, but my dad lay in a pool of blood. He was still alive for the moment. As he lay bleeding, he had watched me defeat the Omni thug without even breaking a sweat. He said his last words with a smile on his face. "Son, you are ready for what lies ahead. You know what you have to do." I had a purpose in my life, and my father's death had made me stronger.

Many years have passed since my dad was killed. I don't know my age exactly, but I think I'm in my late 20's now. The war between the Clans and Omni-Tek had grown to epic proportions, and everyone was involved in one way or another.

One day on the way to one of my missions, I met up with a guy named Yalgar in an Old Athens shop. Fumbling with some nanoclusters and implants, Yalgar helped me out. I offered him a nice arm implant and then he introduced me to some of his friends as we walk back to his base camp. Looking at a big sign overhead, I ask "What does ORA mean"? He told me the story and I realized we had much in common. Our future together fighting Omni-Tek was certain.
