Walking around the side of the barn he stopped dead in his tracks at the sight of a women curled up by the side of the barn.
Going over and kneeling next to her. He gently rolled over. He noticed the dark red spot growing on her side.
Chi let out a moan as her rolled over.
"Sorry ma'am but I have to check your wound." Chris whispered. He quickly checked her wound. Sitting back he called out, "NATHAN" Then he picked her up and headed for the house.
Nathan ran out of the house just as Chris stepped onto the porch "She's been shot. I can't tell how bad yet."
Nathan nodded, "I'll get my bag."
"I'm taking her to my room. It's quieter then the guest room." Chris said over his shoulder as he climbed the stairs.
Nathan nodded and headed for the den and grabbed his bag.
Chris takes her to his room and gently lays her on his bed, He gently removes her blouse and covers her just as Nathan came into the room.
Nathan cleaned the wound and started to look for the bullet.
Chi woke and started to sit up. "Owww."
Chris quickly pushed her back down. "Easy. Nathans going to fix you up. But you have to stay still."
"Hurts" She whispered in a raspy voice.
"Here give her some of this laudanum." He handed Chris the brown bottle they all dregged.
Gently lifting her head Chris managed to get some of it down her throat.
Nathan got the bullet out and dressed the wound. "She should sleep for a while. Just need to keep her still and resting. while she heals."
"I'll make sure she stays put. Tell Nettie I'll eat up here." Chris called out to Nathan as he left the room.
Nathan nodded as he walked out the door knowing Chris wouldn't move from the bed side.
Chris took the basin of water and wet the rap Nathan left with him. Wringing it out and gently whipping her face He whispered, "Who are you ma'am? What happen to you?"
Chi could hear a calming voice. She struggled to climb through the darkness that surrounded her. But all she could manage to do it to move her hand towards the voice.
Chris say the movement and took her hand. He noticed his simple action seem to relax her and not to fight the effects of the laudanum. He could tell she hadn't eaten in a while. He didn't recall seeing her around the area. He would have to wait till she wakes to get his answers.
