I. Instructions for Tournament

1. Run the tournament.exe.
2. To create your own character, choose the CharaCreator.
3. Once you have created your own character, you can fight in the Tournament! Choose 2 from the menu to load the Tournament.
4. To fight a random monster in the Tournament, choose "N" when the Tournamaster asks if you have someone in mind. To fight another character, one you have created or one you have encountered in the game, choose "Y" and enter the filename. The filenames for in-game characters are always their name with a lower-case letter, for example Zaikun's file is "zaikun".
5. When you have fought and increased your character's strength for a while, visit some of the "Other Destinations", choice 3 on the menu. You may even end up learning magic!

II. Hints

* The Build up strength command will stack- if you do it two times in a row before attacking, your strength will increase twice.

* If you see that the enemy is building up strength four or five times in a row, consider defending. Defending will double your defense.

* If your character's attacks continuously miss the enemy, it probably means that your character's attack is less than the enemy's defense. Build up strength a few times and then attack.

* You can set up a string of commands while fighting instead of waiting to enter a command each turn. For example, entering "bbba" when asked for a command will cause your character to build up strength three times and then attack.

* Magic requires you to build up strength a certain number of times before you can use a spell. The Magimaster will tell you how many times you need to build up strength to use a spell when you learn the spell, so make sure to remember that.

* Some characters will require a "word" to challenge them in the tournament. When you encounter them, they will eventually give you this word. Make sure to remember it, or you won't be able to fight them and move forward in the game!

III. Changes

Changes v2.0

* Both the CharaCreator and the Tournament are in the same .exe now, along with two "Other Destinations," Zaikun's Place and Magic School Mavum.
* Magic is now in the game and working. For players, at least.

Changes v1.1.1

* A bug within tournament.exe related to the Build Up Strength command has been fixed. Before, for example if you built up four times then attacked, after the attack your strength would revert back- to the amount of strength you'd built up on the third turn! Now damage is calculated differently and that doesn't happen.
* Tournament has a website! http://www.angelfire.com/rpg/kouryuu/tournament.htm

Changes v1.1

* The characreator has been "Tournamasterized"
* Attack damage now varies slightly from turn to turn...
* This is controlled by the new stat Luck, that sets the upper (postive value of luck) and lower (negative value of luck) boundaries of the variation.
* Luck is also available at the victory screen.
* There is a "no reward" option at the victory screen.
* Monsters now get progressively stronger based on wins.
* New command, "Build up strength" overcomes the bug of not being able to beat an enemy with a higher defense than your attack by allowing you to spend a turn "charging," which multiplies your attack stat by 150%. You can Build as many times as you want to increase your strength.
* Checks if the player file you open actually exists or not.

Plans

* High score files from the special tournaments
* Implementation of file existence check on loaded opponent file.
* Implementation of items, money, and a shop (opponents will carry an item and receiving this item will be an option on the victory menu, as will getting money).
* Implementation of magic (maybe).
* Implementation of equipment (maybe).
* More detailed monster AI (ie, not just random... someday).
* "Adventure" .exes with an actual story that interacts with the tournament.exe through a password system (ie, you find a person in the adventure where you can't get by without the password, so you go to the tournament.exe, load the file for the opponent, and defeat them to get the password).
* Special tournaments where you fight specific opponents in order to get a prize- winning against one opponent gives you the password for the next opponent.
