The Chicago Gangsters of the 20's & 30's

Al "Scarface" Capone 1 of the most notorious mob bosses in Chicago

Al Capone was born in 1899 in Brooklyn, New York to immigrant parents from Naples, Italy. He joined the James Street Gang, a street gang of teenagers that was run by Johnny Torrio. The gang was just a small part og the 5 Points Gang, in which Capone would later "graduate" too. Torrio as a bouncer at his bar in Brooklyn hired Capone. Here he earned the nickname "Scarface" after getting into a fight with another gangster. In 1919, Capone got into trouble with the law, & decided to leave New York, & move to Chicago. Capone & Torrio, destroyed all operations & started up their booze operation during the prohibition. They were at 'war' with many other gangs in Chicago, including the infamous O'Bannion gang from the North Side. A fight with a gang member left Torrio in the hospital leaving Capone in charge of the gang. At the age of 26, Al Capone came in charge of 1 of the biggest crime families in which numbered over 1000. He was loved by the public & was cheered at rallies while Hoover was booed. Once, at his Cicero headquarters, the O'Bannion gang sent a motorcade of machine dwelling mobsters in which shot over 1000 rounds, but Al was left without even a bruise. Capone had a way of dealing with his enemies (he had them shot). 1 of the most famous occasions was when he had 3 of his oun men-John Scalise, Albert Anselmi, & Hop Toad Giunta. He invited them to a banquet & afterwards pulled them behind the club and bashed their heads in. 1 of the most famous mob-hits ever, the Saint Valentines Day Massacre, was successful 1 on his part, but changed the way the public looked at him. It caused many political enemies & problems. Though he was guilty, Capone could noot be connected to any murders & avioded being arrested & tried for murder. He was later arrested for evading taxes, & sentenced to 11 years in Atlanta, but soon took control and had a mirror, typwriter, rugs, & a set of Encycledia Britanica britannica. Later he was sent to Alcatraz, & served his time, & was taken out early for syphilis, which was severely damaging his health. He died on January 25th, 1947.
