            Druids

The fury of a storm, the cunning of the fox, the power of the bear--all these and more are at the druid's command. The druid claims no mastery over nature, but is one with nature. Druids cast divine spells much the same way as priests, though they get their spells from the power of nature, not from gods. Their spells are oriented toward nature and animals. While druids accept that which is horrific or cruel in nature, they hate that which is unnatural, including aberrations and undead. The weapons and armor of a druid are restricted by traditional oaths, not simply training. Druids avoid carrying much worked metal because it interferes with the pure and primal nature that they attempt to embody. Worked metal also tends to surpress their druidic powers.

The Druid serves as the guardian of both the great forests of the wilderness and the smaller woodlands and orchards that lie next to cultivated fields in the flat lands, rolling plains, or wooded hills. Druids hold trees (especially ash and oak) sacred and never destroy woodlands or crops, no matter what the situation. The Druid acts as a living bridge between the wilderness and those living on it's borders.

            Granted Abilities

            Secret Language
All Druids can speak a secret language in addition to their native language. Not only can Druids use the secret language to provide passwords, they can speak this private language when they wish to baffle nondruidic eavesdroppers. It is a precise tool for discussing Nature; a Druid can say "dense old growth pine forest" in one word rather than a whole phrase. The secret language has a specialized and detailed vocabulary limited to dealing with Nature and natural events; beyond this sphere, it is very basic. The secret language of the Druids remains a purely spoken tongue. There is no written component to the language.

            Shapechanging
All Druids have the ability to shapechange into a animal native to the area the Druid lives in. At lower levels, the Druid can take the shape of only one animal a day (this includes returning to the Druid's natural form), but with each level the Druid advances, his or her ability to shapechange increases by one. Thus a Druid that has advanced one level of experience can shapechange twice a day (including returning to their natural form), so the Druid may shapechange into a badger, then into an eagle, and finally return to his or her natural form. The Druid has all the natural abilities of the animal whose form they shapechange into.

            Animal Affinity
All Druids have the ability to communicate with the animals that share their forest. At lower levels, the Druid can get a sense of what the animals are feeling, somewhat similar to empathy. At higher levels, the Druid and animals can communicate directly with each other. At Apprentice level, the Druid chooses one type of animal in which to have the Affinity with. As the Druid advances in levels, he or she adds one (per level) animal to the animals they have Affinity with. Each new animal type that is added is at the Apprentice Level, thus newly added animals would only be able to share their feeling with the Druid, while other animals that share Affinity with the Druid would have more direct communication.
