The Guide of HopeHaven Weyr

HISTORY
-------
Turns ago, at the end of the 14th Pass, many Weyrleaders realized the danger of allowing young and reckless riders the opportunity to anger the Lords Holder, and feared what might happen if the Lords decided the Weyrs were too much of a liability. This resulted in increased disciplinary actions which later evolved into a strict code of absolute dictatorship by the Weyrleadership of each Weyr. For even the most minor offense, the offending rider and dragon were exiled from their home Weyr, since it was an Interval and the riders were no longer as necessary. This practice continued right up until a Turn before the 15th Pass began, when the exiled riders were ordered to rejoin their Weyrs and prepare for Threadfall. Of course, the riders were understandably reluctant, but many returned to their home Weyr or joined another. There were those, however, who resisted going back to those who had exiled them in the first place, and they began to congregate on the Southern Continent, in a mountain range to the south of what was once known as Drake's Lake. At first it was only a rebellious green rider and her blue rider weyrmate, who were exiled because of a chronic inability to keep their mouths shut when they didn't approve of the actions of their Weyrleadership, but the numbers kept growing, and soon there was even a gold, Tianath, formerly of Telgar Weyr, who looked to Jeniviere, banned due to a tragic knife duel between herself and the son of Telgar's Lord Holder, with the end result of the boy's death. Jeniviere was content in her senior position, and with her presence, the riders' haven became an established Weyr in a cave system close to the shore of Drake's Lake. Then from Ista, another gold rider was exiled for her part in supporting a band of renegades when they attempted to overthrow Ista's Lord. She was Adora, Sharanith's rider. Since neither gold had yet risen, it was decided that Adora, as the older rider, would be the acting Weyrwoman, until one of the golds rose, and the senior bronze rider P'ckard, exiled from Fort Weyr due to a violent disagreement with the Fort Weyrleader, became the acting Weyrleader. The Weyr was christened HopeHaven, somewhat irreverently, by the original green rider Alynna, and the name stuck.
THE WEYR
----------
HopeHaven exists in an independent time line just before the 15th Pass. AIVAS was not found, and will never be. HopeHaven has been established in a rough cave system in the mountain ranges south of Drake's Lake, just a stone's throw away from the shoreline. The cave system is very spacious but rough, although running water has been added to some of the lower caverns and the gold riders' weyrs. Orkney Hold is the only truly large Hold in the surrounding area, but there are multiple smaller holds established and flourishing. The Southern Continent is an unchecked jungle due to the protection of the grubs and rumor has it that a certain type of tunnel snake can grow to elephantine sizes in the area. Water snakes are also quite large in Drake's Lake and venomous, luckily the Weyr is off a cove of the lake itself, which is too shallow for the dangerous creatures.
THE DATE

The current Turn is 4009. Hopehaven was founded in 4007.
THE BoD
-------
The BoD consists of 6 members: the Weyrwoman, the Weyrleader, the Weyrwoman 2nd, Weyrleader 2nd, the Lord / Lady Holder, and a Master crafter. Major decisions for HopeHaven will be decided on a "majority rules" voting system within the BoD, and in the event of a tie, the Weyrling Master will
also vote.
STORY REQUIREMENTS
------------------
Any member of the BoD is exempt from contributing to the 'Zine unless willing. Since we're busy running the Weyr, we may not have time to do much writing, but we'll try our best. Any Wingleaders or characters of equal status must write at least 2 stories per year or contribute artwork if they have a talent. Also, instead of one story a year, you may do something to help the BoD out, such as design artwork for our pages, write a Hatching script, start and monitor a Role-play thread, or anything else you can think of to make our lives easier. The 'Zine is out every 6 months, in January and July, and anyone who wants to may contribute OR offer their assistance to the BoD with putting it together.
FIRE LIZARD POLICY
-----------------
Since HopeHaven is in Southern there are many wild fire lizards flitting about, and they are also common in the Weyr. No gold or bronze riders may Impress a gold fire-lizard. Any character may have 5 male fire lizards OR 2 males and 1 female (gold or green.) Green clutches will not be monitored by the BoD but are allowed to exist and any eggs can be given out at will (BoD must be informed of any character acquiring a new fire lizard). Bronze fire lizards are NOT status fire lizards, but we ask that you not abuse this policy by giving your character 5 of them.
ANNE'S RULES
------------
We cannot use Anne's characters OR their names, however we can use them as a reference (for example, your character can say "remember when Jaxom...")
No magic or sorcery.
No religion, Pern has no deities.
Ruatha Hold, Benden Weyr, and Harper Hall are OFF LIMITS, in other words, while your character can me from there, trained there, etc., they cannot be the location of any stories or plots.
Hearing All Dragons (HAD)
----
In HopeHaven there will only be two HAD characters at any given point in time, one male and one female. The male position is currently taken, but the female is open. If you would like to write this character, please let the BoD know.
TIMING
------
Since some of our exiled riders are misfits, surely one or two of them have stumbled into this trait. However, if your riders time it, they'll be sure to catch hell from the golds, and we don't want that, do we?

HOPEHAVEN'S TIME LINE
--------------------
November, 1998- Mel and Sean, out of boredom, brainstorm a Weyr and suddenly
decide that they rather like the idea.
December 2, 1998- Sean and Mel receive permission from Anne to create
HopeHaven as an offline Weyr, and there is much rejoicing.
January 30, 1999- HopeHaven now has 13 Members and a full BoD, a strong webpage and very talented reservoir of members.
June 9, 1999- HopeHaven has lead the Pern-based AOL message boards as #1 in post activity for five weeks in a row! Being one weyr out of 36 Weyrs (online and offline) on the boards it is a remarkable feat.
June 10, 1999- HopeHaven's first 'Zine, the Hope's Herald, is created and published by Rachel (Ramoth859@aol.com) and a very good job was done on it.
August 13, 1999- HopeHaven lost their reign of being #1 on the AOL Pern Fandom message boards today by two posts after a 14-solid week long reign. Truly a record worth remembering. Back to square one. Hmm...does it have anything to do with it being Friday the 13th...?
