OVERVIEW: Back in Altea, Princess Hilda has been acting strange. After talking to her you find that it's not really her. Then, a messanger comes and says that the real Princess is being held captive by the Empire at Paramekia. It's your job to go save her.
I. An Imposter
-Once back in Altea, heal and sell any extra items and equipment from Dist Cave if you need to. You may also wish to unequip Layla and sell her equipment because she will be leaving your party soon. But, I don't recommend it because she will only be leaving your party for a short time and it's not really worth the hastle.
| |
-After this, talk to the townspeople in the rebel headquarters. They talk about how the Princess is acting very strange lately and has locked herself in her room and won't come out.
-Talk to Gordon and he agrees. He tells you to go and talk to Hilda and see what's wrong. Hilda's room is south of the King's old room, head there for a visit.
| |
-Hilda tells you that she would like to talk to Frioniel alone. Maria thinks that it's a little strange, but eventually the rest of your party leaves the room.
-Hilda asks Frioniel to come near and Frioniel realizes that it isn't the Princess at all. The rest of your party comes in for a difficult battle. Queen Lamia is tough, in fact, she is the hardest foe you've fought to this point in the game. She can put your team to sleep, blind them, and worst of all confuse them. So, how do you beat her?

-There are a few different ways you can approach this battle. If you have strong magic, then unequip all weapons and shields from your characters. Then, if your characters are confused they will do minimal damage to yourself and you can hack away at her HP with magic attacks. If this isn't the case then just hack away with your strongest attackers and cure as necessary. To make things easy you can use the change spell from Mysidia.
| |
-You can always try again if you lose. Luck can play a big roll in this fight, because of the confusion status effect. In any case, after the fight you'll thank Layla for her help and then a man comes in with a message for you.
-Apparently, the real Princess is being held by the Empire at Paramekia. And that there's some sort of tournament and she is the prize.
| |
-Gordon comes in, asks for your help, and then joins your party. Don't worry about buying new equipment, spells, or leveling up Gordon. He will be with you for a very short time and the battles will be fairly easy. So, now that you're ready to head to Paramekia, where the heck is it???
II. The Arena

-You're not actually going to Paramekia, but rather, an arena near Paramekia. This is where the tournament is being held. To get there, simply follow this map. (1 is Altea and 13 is the Arena.)
-This is the closest spot that you will be able to dock your ship at, you'll have to walk the rest of the way. Don't worry, the Arena isn't that far away and the enemies aren't that tough.
| |
-One of the toughest things about this regions' enemies are that they often come in big groups and have rather high HP's. Use physical attacks and knock them out 1 by 1. Make sure that you heal yourself after each battle. Don't worry about saving a bunch of MP for the Arena, you won't need it.
-This is the Arena, bring your HP up to the max and then head in. There are no random battles on the opening floor, so just head down the path.
| |
-You'll eventually come face to face with the Emperor himself. He'll command you to fight for the Princess.
-A creature will come out of the gate on the right and attack you. This is the first real boss battle of the game. (It plays new music during the battle.) But, it doesn't live up to the hype.

-The Behemoth is much easier than Queen Lamia was. He only attacks with straightforward physical attacks that aren't that powerful. (Only about 200 damage or so.) Don't bother with magic, just pound away with physical attacks and the behemoth will go down in a couple turns.
-After the fight, you approach the Emperor only to realize that he has known that it was you the whole time (as if he had seen you before), and throws you into jail.
III. Save the Princess
-So what now? How are you going to get out of this predicament? Well Paul is here to help you out. He knocks out the guard and lets you out.
-Apparently Paul doesn't like owing favors and he's repaying you for the help back in Semite Cave. So now that your out of jail, where is the Princess? There are no random battles on this floor so you can roam around freely.

-There are 2 ways that you can go on this floor. The path to the right only leads to an empty room and to an antidote. To make things worse the antidote is guarded, so don't even bother. Instead head up.
-You'll come to a series of four rooms, with only one worth taking. Three are empty, the only room with anything is the one on the right in this picture.
-This room is definetely worth visiting. It contains not only an ether and a cottage, but an elixir as well. All very good items. The elixir sells for 25,000 Gil if you need the money, but it's probably a better idea to just hang on to it.
-This door in the northeast corner of the floor contains the stairs up to the next floor, head here next. Be prepared, basement 1 has random battles that are fairly difficult.
-This floor is very straight forward, but the random battles can become quite the nuisance. When you come around to this point head up on this path. The bottom path leads to the exit of the Arena, but you don't want to head there until you've saved the Princess.
-Keep on this path and you'll come to the Princess. You break her out of jail and Gordon takes her away. Unfortunately, they don't give you an escort, you'll have to take your own way back to Altea.
-Back track to the point that you took the top path and take the bottom one this time, you'll eventually come to these stairs. This will take you back to the main floor of the Arena, make your way out. Then you'll have to make the long trip back to your ship and then the trip back to Altea. (Phew...)
IV. The Rebel Camp
-When you finally get back to Altea, no one is there. The only ones left are the shopkeepers and this messanger that informs you that the rebels are going to try to take back Phin Castle. What he doesn't tell you is that the rebels (including Gordon and Hilda) have set up a camp to the west of Gatea and that they're waiting for you there.
-Gatea is dead north of Altea, in case you've forgotten. As you can see the camp is just to the north of it. Use the rivers to get here quick and easily.
-Apparently, monsters have invaded Phin Castle and this is the perfect opportunity for the rebels to strike. (Or just a handy excuse for the programmers to have random battles within the castle.)
-Hilda and Gordon both agree, now is the time for the rebels to strike back. Taking back Phin Castle would be a major step. Get ready for a charge to retake Phin!
