During the age of the Vehicons on Cybertron, many Cybertronians were hiding underground to escape the evil clutches of Megatron, or some were merely in stasis lock, waiting for something. During this time, a Maximals named Turtalator was contacted by and was led to the Oracle, which reformatted him into a techno-organic. It was at this time that he was charged with the task to search out others and reformat them to aid him in his battle against Megatron and the Vehicons. And thus he did, finding some wounded or some ran into him, and they chose to be reformatted by Turtalator. Pyro, a dragon, met Turtalator and was also reformatted, but in the process, he was also given the ability to reformat other Cybertronians and become second in command. With a substantial force gathered, the battle for Cybertron began.
There were numerous battles between Maximal and Vehicon, both sides losing and winning. During one battle though, the Vehicons gained the upper hand and captured a good chunk of the resistance force, including Turtalator. Pyro, who had managed to escape with a few others, led a sneak attack on the prison and freed the Maximals, but Turtalator was nowhere to be found. The search had to be abandoned as the Vehicons regrouped for a counter offensive and the Maximals retreated. After a few solar cycles of waiting, the Maximals went for one final attack, do or die, against the Vehicons. When they arrived, they could not believe their optics. There was a large vortex over the Citadel, and they noticed a small figure get sucked into it. The Maximals entered the Citadel to find beings there who claimed to come to help the Maximals, that Cybertron would soon be destroyed, and them with it, if they did not follow them. So they did, and on the other side of the vortex, Fate dealt them a dead man's hand as they witnessed the destruction of Cybertron just as they entered the vortex. Once on the other side, they discovered the truth about the Drocans, the strange beings from the Citadel. The Maximals were forced into slavery by the Drocans worked in the mines of an alien planet.
During their stay, they met and befriended some fellow Cybertronians, and they even found Megatron, who had also become a slave. It appeared that the Drocans came through the vortex and slaughtered the Vehicons, taking Megatron as a slave, but Megatron had an idea. Through cooperative efforst between the Maximals and Megatron, they managed to escape and took to hiding. Meanwhile, Megatron had a contact to Cybertron through the Diagnostic Drone, who informed them that Cybertron had not been destroyed, but rather it was now another mining planet for the Drocans. The Maximals and Megatron formulated a plan and stormed the Drocan fortress, intent and getting back home. After a brief struggle, they managed to find the vortex egenrator and opened it. Essex fixed a bomb to the generator, which destroyed it once they were through the vortex. Glad to be home, the Maximals rejoiced but it was short lived as the remainign Drocans on Cybertron attacked. The Maximals managed to defeat them, but three remaining Drocans had created a prison type cell around Megatron, susing their own plasmic bodies, and thus he stayed like that. The Maximals put Megatron away and the Oracle reformatted Cybertron into a balance of techno and organic.
Shortly after the reformattion of Cybertron, a strange ship arrived and began attacking. It landed, but kept it's forcefield up to protect itself. The Maximals managed to penetrate the shield and the ship, entering it. Inside, they were attacked by a group of Predacons and the battle went both ways, but ended up in the Maximal favor. They made their way to the bridge and when they did, they were surprised by more Predacons, led by a Drocan named Rakmen, who turned out to be a genetic experiment by the Drocans, which gave him superior strength and abilites. During the battle, Rakmen was sliced in two and was presumed dead, but the two halves regenerated. resulting in two Rakmens. Eventually thoguh, the Maximals had destroyed one Rakmen and had the other at their mercy when he activated a countdown. When it reached zero, an experimental transwarp drive activated, killing Rakmen and opening a large vortex over the ship, which engulfed it then disappeared.
When they emerged from the vortex, they crashed onto what appeared to be Cybertron, but it was completely technological, and alternate universe Cybertron. They were barely on the ground when they were attacked by an unknown group of Cybertronians. As they battled, they revealed themselves to be Tricons, the triple-changing descendants of the Vehicons, and they were led by Megatron. The battle was heavily in the Tricons' favor, thus forcing the Maximals to retreat, taking the ship they arrived in underground. They remained there for a while, always sending up detachments to retrive materials and parts for repairs and what not. Eventually though, their position was compromised as the Trciosn headed underground to find an ancient relic known as the Tehcno Orb, which destroyed all organic matter, turning it to tech. The Maximals moved to intercept, but failed and the Tricons retrieved the Techno Orb, but in doing so, they awakened it's guardian, Cyberus. The behemoth attacked both Maximal and Tricon, looking to take back the Techno Orb. Eventually, the Maximals managed to to talk to Cyberus and swayed him to their side. Cyberus managed to retrieve the Techno Orb, swallowing it and retrating with the Maximals to the streets. They took up hiding in a large warehouse, but eventually were discovered by the Tricons and were attacked. The Werecons, the newest Tricons, attacked Cyberus and ripped him open, retrieving the Techno Orb for Megatron. The Tricons battered the Maximals, but left them crippled, taking their ship and returning to their fortress.
After the Maximals managed to recover, they regrouped and went for one final attack, but fate repeated itself as the Tricons discovered and activated the experimental transwarp drive, opening another tranwarp vortex. But something unexpected happened with the arrival of strange, organic looking ship. After the vortex closed, the Tricons and Maximals went to investigate and were attacked by two Cybertronians that were techno-organic. They managed to all but destroy the Tricon, who immedaitely retreated, and they tried to talk with the Maximals. They introduced themselves as Titus and Mimik, with a third associate named Vapor , and offered their assistance to destroy the Tricons, but the Maximals declined. A few Maximals, however, had managed to take back their ship and took it back underground, where the others soon met up. Blaize, who had become the pet of a rogue named Final, and Final joined the Maximals with another techno-organic they met during the battle, a fem named Backlash, who seemed very friendly towards everyone. During their tenure in the underground, the males of the Maximals were attractted to Backlash, who simply acted like a giddy school girl around them, but the fems were becoming enraged at her. A few Maximals went to the surface to talk with T2 and his Tri-Dynasty, but arrived as Mimik was attacking them. The Maximals jumped into the fray and helped, but Titus soon joined Mimik, coming from destroying Megatron at the Tricon fortress. Eventually, the Maximals and Tri-Dynasty managed to fend off the now proclaimed Neobiotics and the Tri-Dynasty joined the Maximals underground. Underground though, the Maximals were all infected with some disease and Krathis was the first to succumb to it. It was soon found out that Backlash was the one behind the infection and she fled , leaving the Maximals infected with the Darke Plague and their ship destroyed. The Maximals moved to the surface to find it overrun by darek veins, which were tapping Cybertron of it's life. The Maximals and the Tricons, who were also infected, formed an allaicne to rid Cybertron of the Neobiotics, which they managed to do by Backdraft's nuclear detonation. Just before though, the Maximals managed to hijack the Neobiotic ship and the Tricons escaped on a secret vessel prepare by Megatron and Maolduin. As the nuclear blast killed the Neobiotics, the Neobiotic ship opeed a transwarp drive over Cybertron, which the Maximals and Tricons left the diseased Cybertron through.
When they came out the other end, the Maximals found themselves under attack by the Tricons and crash landed on the planet Earth, where they were rescued by Commander Jake Stone and the Terraspace Force.
