"FAQ: What a guildmaster can and can't do"

This probably should be put into the Cosrin FAQ at http://www.legendsofcosrin.com/faqs.shtml, but I might as well put this up here while I'm in a posting frenzy.

Throughout the ages in Cosrin there has been much confusion about what players can expect from their Guildmaster. The role isn't clearly posted anywhere, and in fact the role has evolved and changed over the years. So, I thought it might be useful to try to give everyone an idea of what the role of GM entails, hopefully without providing any spoilers that might make things less fun IC.

The position of Guild Master comes with a higher level of power than the typical mortal and therefore the person in that role is burdened with greater responsibilities and restrictions. As leaders in Cosrin, they are expected to be an example in both behaviour and roleplay. This means they spend their lives under a microscope, under uncomfortable scrutiny by both players and staff.

Here are some things a GM can do:

• Create a team of Guild Officers, according to the guild charter. Just as the job of a Guild Master is to serve the guild, the job of a Guild Lieutenant is to serve the GM. They serve at the GM's discretion and even whim, within certain charter restrictions.
• Create a governing policy of rules and regulations to govern the guild.
• Enforce the guild charter and GM Policy, with staff assistance where necessary.
• Make changes to the guild charter (though this is not encouaraged and requires a non-trivial process noted elsewhere).
• Create guild votes and guild notices.
• Grant titles to members.
• Spend guildtithe in order to purchase guild luck.
• Spend the guild treasury and determine what to do with items in the guild locker.
• Conduct relations with other guilds (for example working out arrangements regarding mentoring or guild luck).
• Work closely with staff regarding all OOC matters of the guild, including AUP violations, bugs, balance issues, etc. The GM is the guild's ambassador to the gods.
• In the possibly distant future, GMs will act in part as Barons of their guild, spending guild tithe and guild treasury on expansions to the guild - new rooms, additional guild items, etc.

Here are some things a GM can not do:

• Give another person access to their character. This is considered borderline behavior for any player, but is completely unacceptable for a guild officer. Doing so results in immediate removal as a guild officer, disqualification from serving as a guild officer in the future, and further penalties - possibly including banishment.
• Violate AUP in any way, or even have the appearance of coming close to doing so. GO's are held to a much higher standard.
• Remove titles granted by heroes or immortals, or grant titles implying a link to a hero or immortal.
• Control what's available from tutors (items, skills, spells, etc.). Code new items or areas. GMs can request changes to the guild, or guild items, but in the vast majority of cases the answer is "No." In the future GMs will be able to request much more (by spending tithe and gold), but in all cases they will be going through staff, who will have the final say.

"Guild Issues"

We would like to let people know a few of the changes we've made in how the Guilds Team will be handling things for a while.

First, from this point on, we ask that you NOT ask heroes in game for assistance on OOC guild matters. The Guilds Team will be intimatly involved in every OOC aspect of the respective guilds and as such, will be the ones most suited to answer your questions, solve your problems and listen to your issues. Some things that constitue OOC guild matters include weapons, mounts, training portals, elections, etc.. This is not to say that you cannot request assistance from a hero for other things concerning your guild...as long as they are IC issues. So, OOC issues should be directed to guilds@legendsofcosrin.com.

Second, guilds do not and will not have "guild patrons". A hero may or may not choose to be in a guild, but the extent of their involvment with your guild should be considered IC. Heroes will not have any involvment in any guild beyond an in character association. So, again, for OOC issues, direct everything to the Guilds Team.

Third, the Guilds Team will do everything within it's power to always answer your email within a 24 hour time period. Of course, when we are unable to get near a computer in our OOC lives, it may take just a bit longer, but we promise to do all we can to answer every email...even if it's just to say "no" or "got it, thanks". In the event that everyone on the team is unavailable, an auto-response will be set up to let you know that. We don't expect you to believe any of this right now...but time will prove it true.

Fourth, please remember that any and every problem you have with your guild should be brought up with your GUILD MASTER. If you don't like a portal, or if one is missing...if you don't like the damages on a weapon...or anything else you don't like about your guild...it should be brought to your GUILD MASTER. It is part of your GMs job to relay those issues to the Guilds Team. This is important because in some cases, there may be conflicting issues that our GM can sort through and give the Guilds Team a more concise list of problems. So, please, direct all questions and issues to your GM.

Most everything else we have is for guild officers only. I will be setting up an OOC folder for guild leaders to match your current IC one. We can discuss further from there.

Thanks
-Guilds Team
