The Picture above is a picture of a non-human primate neurons. It shows how MDMA, aka ecstasy, damages this part of the brain. It also damages the serotonin and dopamine chemical messengers that affect many important functions in life, like sleep and eating habits. The cell on the left is the one that is normal, it has not taken ecstasy. The one in the middle is a cell that has been exposed to MDMA for a short period of time. The last one is a long term effect, 12-18 months. As you can see that the short term cell has only damage around it and beginning to "die". The long term effect has "Killed" the axon to the cell, but it has not grown back in someplaces and excessivly in others. These changes change a person's mood, movement, memory, impulse control, aggression, and sleep cycles. There was a recent study done in Canada where a group of people that have taken ecstasy and took a test. They read a story and were asked to re-tell it or recall certain events in the story. Another part of the test included certain things being placed, like alarm clocks and such. They were asked to remember as much as they could. A year later they were asked to take the test again. After they compared the results to people that have never taken the MDMA before, the people taking MDMA where so shocked they stop taking the drug right away! It can cause paranoia and liver damage after long term use. Ecstasy can be found almost anywhere!!! One time I was downtown with my friend and was asked if I wanted to buy some E, it's easy to sell because it's small and makes big profit. It costs $2 to make and it sells for $20-$35, so there is a huge profit being made... |
