The party once more begins to explore the underneath of Galath's Roost. The party proceeds down the corridor with Rentric in the lead. WHAM! a piece of the wall smashes both Rentric and Falin up against the wall. It takes Falin a few moments to disable the trap but the party knows they must be near something special, why else would the corridor be trapped?
The
corridor opens up into a splendid looking room filled with brightly colored
stalactites and stalagmites. A small stream runs through the center
of the room. The party splits up to explore the room when all the
mosses and plants in the room become alive. They entangle themselves
around the party holding them fast as huge vine sprouts forth from the
water and begins beating on Samo. After almost dropping Samo, the
assassin vine concentrates on Liarrin and Rentric. Falin manages
to break free and runs out of range of the entangling plants, firing off
bow shot after bow shot.
Rentric charges towards the vine as does Liarrin. They commence to beat the vine with morningstar and heavy mace smashes. Samo limps out of range and fires off a magic missile at the giant plant. Finally after multiple hits, the assassin vine goes limp - as do the other plants in the room. A thorough search of the room turns up moldy bits of leather and few gold pieces.
Exploring further, the party comes across another room with a huge wall filled with what looks like worm holes. They are not worm holes as suddenly about a half a dozen giant ants charge forth from them! These ants are about six feet long and have huge mandibles. There are five worker ants that bite at the party member and one soldier ant that bites and then tries to sting with its acid stinger! What would be controlling these creatures? There must be a queen somewhere.
A
fierce battle erupts, these are some tough ants! The workers just
seem to be bothersome enough to provoke attacks and anger. The soldier
is really flying though. making multiple stabs at Rentric and Liarrin.
Falin has taken a beating and is forced to run (down to 0 hp) from the
fight. The queen emerges and begins to drop party members.
Liarrin is almost ripped apart but with a blessing from the Morninglord
- she is whole once again. Her participation in the Midsummer Festival
has been rewarded! Samo has used all of his spells and wades in with
his longsword! Rentric is a machine. It seems every swing drops
another ant. One mighty blow almost slices the queen in half!
Although it wasn't the killing blow, it left the queen stunned and Samo
finished it off with a chop to the ant's hindquarters! At this, the
remaining two worker ants retreat to their holes.
The party is victorious - but at what price? Liarrin lies in a bloody heap, barely breathing. Falin is almost unconscious and Rentric sports many wounds. Samo, it seems, survived untouched - must be wizard's luck. The party returns to their camp to heal before making the journey back to town to really rest.
