Shem is a lightfoot halfling born to two loving parents, Mylo and Freeda.  He grew up in a halfling shire called the Bubbling Creak in the Remains of the Reaching Woods.  There always seemed to be something different about Shem, even a s a young child.  It might have had something to do with the unusual birthmark around his belly button.  Five gold stars surround Shem's belly button in a circle.  At the age of five the Whistler family packed up and left the shire and moved to the bustling city of Odiare.  It was here where Shem met his two closest friends, Raina and Hennet.  He has been raised in Odiare ever since the move and has found life better there than at the shire, where he was frowned about and looked at as an outsider.

As a small child, Shem's parents were always fighting.  Nothing physical but they were always arguing and it usually seemed to be over Shem.  This all changed once the family moved to Odiare.  Because of this, Shem despises arguing and will always get in between an argument to try to settle it.  Something about Shem makes it hard for him to make friends.  He had none in the shire and even here in Odiare he counts only two humans as close friends, Raina and Hennet.  He has since met Eliad, a gnome, and the human boy Nathanial, who have become friends as well.

Shem has recently discovered that, along with his four friends, he is a Starborn.  He has been chosen to save the village from some sort of impending evil that threatens it.  How he is to do this is something that remains a mystery.

The Ambitions of Shem Whistler

First and foremost on Shem's agenda is to make people accept him for who he is.  He is always trying to be nice to people and to improve his image around town.  Although he frowns on some laws and regulations he always respects others and their opinions.

Shem wants to fulfill his destiny as a Starborn.  He will join his friends in doing whatever it takes to accomplish this mission.  If it takes him to the farthest corners of Faerun, Shem will rid Odiare of this evil.

Eventually, Shem wants to become a monster killing machine that does nothing but damage.  His goal is to wield two daggers and attack at least twice every round.  Tumbling into combat and slicing up everything in his path.  This may require a level of ranger and possibly fighter, but other than that Shem will remain a rogue.

After attaining enough levels in those fields, Shem would like to become a Dungeon Delver.  In order to accomplish this there are a number of skills and feats he needs to take but he also must survive some sort of cave-in or collapse of a tunnel.  This has Shem worried but unafraid as Arvoreen will see him through it.
