Magic

"Magic is the wool from which reality is spun. I am the loom that spins it"
Archmage Nemus

Magic is the lifeblood of the multiverse, an all-pervasive power that flows through all planes of existence. Those with the power to manipulate this force can tap powers from the elemental and energy planes to produce such miraculous effects as shooting lightning from their fingertips, or bringing the dead back to life. Those with even greater powers can utilize magic to directly alter reality itself. Magic is tapped by many creatures in Annwn, in three distinct ways.

Priests have no understanding of or control over magical energies, but are granted magical abilities through the intersession of the gods, beings of incalculable magical power. These deities have the ability to bend the mystical energies to their desires through sheer force of will. However, the gods are unable to act upon Annwn directly, and thus require mortal beings to channel their powers through. Despite the power of the gods, it takes innate ability and years of experience before such vassals can channel the merest fraction of their deity's magical powers.

Wizards, rather than depend upon the gods to manipulate magic for them, attempt to explore the mysteries of its mystic arts for themselves. Though they possess no innate ability to effect magic, wizards attmpt to learn the formulaic patterns, phrases, and gestures that allow them to artificially gather and form mystical energies to their purpose. Wizards spend years in laborious studies to understand the patterns of magic, which they have divided into various schools, based upon the method of incantation and the nature of the magical energies called upon.

Finally, there are some creatures native to Annwn which, similar to the gods, can channel the forces of magic through innate natural ability (albeit to a much smaller extent). These include such fantastic creatures as sprites and blink dogs, as well as those humanoids commonly referred to as sorcerers.
