Alternate Pattern Rules

Here are the rules for the Alternate Pattern. Most of them are standard RPG rules, but we do have a few specifics. Please read and be familiar with all of them before you begin gameplay. They're here for a reason.

  1. You must have a familiarity with the Wheel of Time Series to participate. You don't need to have read all the books, but you do need to have read some.
  2. No characters from the books, no characters related to or in any way connected to the characters that have appeared in the books.
  3. Keep everything true to the spirit of the books. That means keep characters to types that have appeared in the books already. There will be no characters from anywhere else. No elves, klingons, wookies or anything else.
  4. There will be no use of mundane swear words on this list. Please keep all cursing to WOT oaths, ie: blood and ashes and the like.
  5. The only magic that is used is the One Power. Women use saidar, men use saidin.
  6. Do not, under any circumstance, use someone elses character without their permission. If you absolutely feel you need to use someone elses character for something, ask them.
No dreamwalking in another players dreams without permission.
No killing or maiming another players character without permission. (including named npcs)
  7. Killing of generics during battles is permissable. example: De'Sangual slashed through two Whitecloaks as they advanced with the rest of the forces.
  8. Before you do anything major (killing off a character, starting a major revolution) ask. The GM's are here for a reason.
  9. Any plot that would majorly affect more than just those characters involved in a thread must be cleared with the GMs. ie: attacking Tar Valon or any other major city, disrupting major trade routes etc.
  10. If you decide to have your character manifest an ability, have a major past incident, or change alliance, and it is not on your previously submitted character sheet, the moderators must be informed and you must await approval for abilities. Characters can certainly grow and change, but we need to be kept up to date when neccessary.
  11. The Dark One is completly sealed and is not to be used. Mentioning him or discussing him is fine, he does exist.
  12. The Dragon Reborn does/will exist, but is not in use. This game is more focused on new original ideas and plots rather than what has happened in the books. So if he's out there, no one knows who he is.

Posting Format

  • When posting, you must include the text from the original message you are replying to. This saves confusion.
  • Please keep all posts in the third person past tense only. Anything else gets very, very confusing.
  • This list is PG-13. There will be no gratuitous sex or violence. For violence, a very undetailed description is fine, and for sex, please fade to black.

NPCs

  • Any npc used repeatedly must be approved.
  • You may create more npcs in addition to those supplied with your pc. A short bio is needed for approval.
  • If an npc is too powerful or used often as the major figure in posts, he/she will have to be promoted to pc. The exception to this is if the character holds an important position, such as ruler, general etc. and is only used when the position requires.
  • Random generic npcs may be created as needed. If your Whitecloak is leading a legion against a camp of Aes Sedai, there needs to be a legion obviously.
  • Random generic villages/towns are also good for destruction and mayhem. No destruction of any named place from the books without approval.

Objects & Abilities/Talents

  • angreal-allows the channeler to safely control a greater amount of the Power than normally
  • sa'angreal-similar to angreal but much more powerful.
  • Angreal are rare so they are to be used sparingly. Sa'angreal are extremely rare, and ownership is to be approved. No Sa'angreal equal to or greater than callondor.

  • ter'angreal-are objects created for a purpose, and made with the power. Any ter'angreal that would be considered dangerous or used as a weapon must be approved.
