Igen’s Sr. Queen had just flown, and J’kel had been named Weyrleader. Far from having the experience and wisdom of the previous leader of Igen Weyr, J’kel took practically no steps towards preparing for threadfall. His fighting wings were untrained, his supply of numbweed low, and his relationship with the lord holders was one of subservience. His method of readying the weyr offended many, but one, a newly Impressed bronzerider by the name of M’yrko, was particularly aghast. M’yrko, along with several other brave riders, set out on his bronze. With his came a Jr. queenrider, Rhyshkava, just out of the weyrling barracks, and her queen Pyrenaeth, soon to fly. They left the weyr, and together the brave riders, M’yrko and Rhyshkava searched across Pern for a rock cavern that would house the weyr they hoped to make. Their first stroke of luck was when Rhyshkava and M’yrko, searching on foot one day, discovered a mountainous area, abounding with caverns. The largest cavern, that would become the main weyr, stood proudly at the top of the craggy mountain, painted the weyr a red golden every evening and morning, by the sun, and at night silvered by the moon’slight. It was named Kalanhara Weyr, and soon the brave riders had made a true weyr out of it, including everything from hatching grounds to weyr bowl. Above a spiral shaped rock served the same purpose as the finger rock, it’s tip touching the red star when a pass was beginning. Once the weyr had established itself in its new home high up in the mountains, a queenrider, Talenara, from another weyr arrived, declaring that, because of her age, she would be named Sr. Queenrider. There was no choice but to agree, and that they did. Her queen Trantath flew soon after, naming as the Weyrleader an older bronzerider, R’len. R’len and Talenara had soon gained control of the weyr. Kalanhara did well under them, and the two were beloved by all the riders in their weyr. They were, however, as weak in their belief about preparing the weyr as J’kel had been, and the rebellious M’yrko knew a change was needed. When Talenara’s queen rose for a second time, R’len’s bronze Georth pursued her again. The queen, however, desperate to escape her tireless followers, jumped between, disappearing forever. Her rider followed her soon after, given release by a kindly old brownrider. Rhyshkava was unexpectedly forced, just out of the weyrling barracks, into the position of Weyrwoman. Her queen flew almost immediately after that, and M’yrko’s bronze Hawketh caught her. Together the pair began their uphill battle to prepare Kalanhara Weyr for the impending Pass. Pyrenaeth’s first clutch is hardening on the sands, including two gold eggs, and the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman continue to ready Kalanhara Weyr to char their ancient foe from the skies.
