Terracon's History
In the Nebulos solar system, a small planet floats in the fourth orbit around their star. A green and blue planet, it is quite diverse, housing many different species. Its history is not well-known, because of a planet-wide cover up, but a few key points remain.
The first life forms on Terracon were a very basic species. The Terrans were hard-working humanoids, mostly happy to work the ground and let nature provide for them. As they multiplied, however, Terrans of gifted intelligence soon arose. Tools were made, followed closely by machines, buildings, all of the trappings of a modern society.
The Terrans who began creating these things were very pleased with themselves. They devoted their lives to the machines they had produced. Soon, they began calling themselves "Tekno Terrans" or just "Teknos" for short. Their computers and cities sprang up all over Terracon, promising progress and uniformity.
Some of the non-gifted Terrans were drawn to the cities, and were content to live in the comfortable evironment that the Teknos had artificially produced. But many could not be drawn away from their earlier, agricultural lives. This group preferred to live as they always had, and so, called themselves the
"Natural Terrans" or just "Naturals."
For the first few decades, the two separate groups were willing to live together in peace. Then, the Teknos became power hungry. They began creating sprawling mechanical cities that consumed all of the Naturals land. The resources of the planet - earth, water, wind, plants - were being pushed aside for computers and technology.
The Naturals pulled together all their tribes and challenged the Teknos to a war. The winner would take the planet, the loser would have to leave. And so, war began.
The Teknos hoped to end the fighting quickly by employing a new weapon they had created. The weapon produced a laser that mutated the DNA and Genetic Code of the target. It was fired on the Natural army, but the effects were not exactly what the Teknos had hoped for.
The Naturals genetic code changed, that was for sure. But it was not for the worse. Their DNA became spliced with the animals that surrounded them, and Anthromorphics appeared. They possessed the abilities of nearly all different animals. There were Wolf-Terran, Bear-Terrans, Cat-Terrans. Nearly all species were represented. The appearance had changed, but the soul was still Natural.
The Naturals banded together, whether Anthromorph or not, and attacked the Teknos. The war lasted for nearly half of a century. When it became apparent that neither side would win this war, a treaty was signed.
In this treaty, exactly half of Terracon belonged to the Naturals, and exactly half of Terracon belonged to the Teknos. The lines were set and the groups dispersed to their own lands.
Another century passed, and the groups were still apart. Although there were no hard feelings between them, and the Naturals and Teknos inter-mingled all the time, there were still those who believe that one was better than the other.
Around this time, the Great Cataclysm began. Planets throughout the Nebulos system contracted a strange virus of some sort. It infected the earth itself, causing the core to over heat and eventually destroy the entire planet, leaving nothing but empty space.
Many species had to abandon their homes in large spaceships, searching for a planet that wasn't infected. Soon, the G.C. virus reached Terracon. The Teknos began working furiously on a cure, but they hit the wall 90 percent through development. All of the Tekno scientists were to proud to admit they needed help except for one. He called out to the Naturals, and a great shaman responded.
Kaosh, a great Reptile-Terran shaman, came to Yuu, head Tekno scientist. Together, with Yuu's prowess in anti-virus programs, and Kaosh's knowledge of the earth's spirit, they created something that would kill the virus, completely eradicating it from existence.
The two of them traveled into space and infected the virus with their formula. A massive explosion resulted from the mixture of the two, and Kaosh and Yuu were killed. Their selfless act was an example to all of the Terrans, Natural and Tekno. They agreed that they would harbor no ill will toward each other again, and they opened Terracon for all of the wandering alien species with no home planet to return to.
With all of these new settlers, there were sure to be problems, and in a few years time, the Teknos and Naturals were at each others throats once again. This time with different alien populaces backing each group.
The Teknos aligned themselves with the more logical minded, technologically gifted aliens. They believe in an error-proof society, much more capable than anything nature could have produced. They have no physical advantages over the Naturals, but can have scientifically designed enhancements implanted into their bodies. The process is extremely risky, but, it can provide a Tekno with great power.
Siding with the Naturals were the aliens that lived more spiritually. The earth gave them life, and they believed tampering with the natural order was wrong. With their faith in these spiritual matters, the Naturals have gained control of energy near magical proportions. Their bodies are much stronger than the Teknos due to the work that they do.
Many groups of Terrans have reverted back to their original way of living. They have no status, and prefer the simple term "Terran." There are small colonies scattered in all territories. They include pure-breed Terrans, half-breed Terran/Anthromorphs, full Anthromorphs, and any neutral alien factions. They are a haven for any seeking to keep out of the fighting that is plaguing the planet.
As feelings of discontent grew, a force of sinister power began to grow in Terracon. At the head of this group, the Syndicate, is a man who's true identity is completely unknown. His alias, Shidousha, strikes fear into all who know of him. He has been the leader of the Syndicate since the very beginning. It is rumored that he is at least 200 years old, possibly more. The only Terrans to ever reach ages of that magnitude are the legendary "Elven Terrans." A pure Elven is a rare occurence in deed. They are a genetic anomaly, born only one every century, if lucky. They have powers and skills beyond any other species living on Terracon.
Shidousha has been absolutely merciless with his actions. The Syndicate has operatives in both groups, Tekno and Natural. Its main goal is to topple the power of both, and begin a new reign, with Shidousha as the leader of Terracon.
The Syndicate's evil fingers find their way into many of Terracon's criminal altercations, but many rogues and lesser crooks have been known to cause just as much trouble.
The Tekno have set up a ruling government they have named 'The House.' Inside of The House, a group of representatives from all species and sectors of the Tekno lands decide rules, regulations, and legal disputes. The Syndicate holds two or three of the highest positions of power in The House, but this is notably few compared to the overall number of positions.
The Tekno Police Force, which is directly controlled by The House, has branches all over the planet. The Chief of Police is a direct operative of the Syndicate, but his position is a well-guarded secret. Many officers are true to their jobs, but a growing number are also Syndicate controlled.
The Naturals have a civil system set up. Called the 'Council', it is made up of one shaman from each elemental or physical clan, and a representative for each alien race living in the Natural lands. The Council rules on only the most important Natural issues. Most small problems are handled by a clan's indivual shaman. Each shaman has an equal place in the Council, and, as far as is known, no Syndicate operative is a member of the Council.
However, the Syndicate has managed to turn entire clans to the will of Shidousha. Most of these clans have been banned from the Council. They are a source of great power for Shidousha to draw on.
The economic system of Terracon is fairly straight forward. Currecny is made up of small coins, printed from rare metals and alloys. If these coins are not available, a strong barter system is also active. The Naturals mainly barter, while Teknos prefer hard currency.
Tekno cities are vast urban areas, usually taking up a huge amount of space. Travel by foot is no longer the norm. Air taxis are the main form of transport, while air vehicles are owned by most of the richer citizens. Nearly everything one could ever want or need can be found in a Tekno city.
Natural villages are smaller, but far more numerous than the sprawling Tekno cities. They are mainly clan specific, but there are a few large trading posts where all clans meet and purchase together. These posts can mostly be found around connecting waterways, or high in the trees of the giant forests. Naturals are known for using the pre-existing modes of transport instead of creating their own.
Justice in Terracon is carried out three ways:
1) Tekno Police Force, which is shoddy work at best, and mostly corrupt.
2) Taking the law into your own hands, which works best for Naturals who have the power to do so, but some rogue scientists have done the same.
And 3) Bounty Hunters. Bounty Hunters are a prosperous business on Terracon. They are licensed by law, but are far more affective than the law. Many firms hire out Bounty Hunters to the House or to private citizens.
Hatred and bad blood fill the air. Another Civil War may break out soon, set off by Shidousha and his evil actions. Perhaps peace on Terracon will never come about, but there are many that hope and strive for this goal. The future holds many possibilities.
