I’ve discovered a few essentials for farm life.

First is a good truck. I sank $1500 into a low mileage (200,000) Chevy ¾ ton 4X4. Well worth the money and great for hauling loads of crap from the farm auctions.

Which brings me to the second thing on my list.

Good source of farm auctions. I’m cheap so when I am in need of some farm supplies I check out the local farm auctions. Chances are they will not only have what I’m looking for but I’ll be coming home with a bunch of stuff I didn’t even know I needed.

Now I have the means to transport and the supplies to build.

So off I go. The first thing was to set up my fence. I talked to a lot of people and learned one thing fast. The guys at the farm supply store want me to build a fence designed to hold a bull elephant. I sat down and with the help of my wife we came up with a plan to build on the cheap. 1st. We started by calling around to the different supply stores and came up with a price list of all items I needed. 2nd. We made that into two lists. One with the items we can buy used and one with a list of items we want new. The new item list was short. If I remember right it was electric fence aluminum wire. 3rd. We hit the auctions.
