Seattle was hit with a wind and rain storm like I have never witnessed. Apparently, the winds were in the 10-year range (lower by some estimates, higher by others) although I cannot remember ever seeing as many trees down in the Puget Sound area. Our neighborhood lost power from Thursday night to Tuesday 3pm. My sister's house is nearby but got power back Monday night. So we all ended up at my folks' place (and there out of town guest). It was fun and tiring at the same time. Sleeping on cushions in the hallway is amusing only so long -- don't get me wrong, it is better than being in a 40 degree house (as our's was) or getting asphyxiated by generator fumes (as many did). Joy left a coffee shop during the initial downpour (.86 inches in just over an hour) and waded through almost a foot of water. It was this deluge that killed a woman down the street who was trapped in her basement. It was additionally sad to see so many great, towering trees being chopped up. Also, rather than a Christmas show (such as "The Nutcracker" or some "Scrooge" play) the clan got together for a trip to the carousel downtown. We all met at Verite Coffee and hopped on the bus. It was Julian's first ride and it was a thrill. The carousel was fun, too.
