Reviews - Overload by Sam Woodbridge
This song for me is the epitome of everything a heavy metal song should contain. There are the overpowering guitars playing riffs that simply scream out to be head banged to, the manic yet melodic pounding of the drums, which is all offset by some amazing bass playing. Every instrument can be heard clearly, which sometimes isn’t the case, yet each separate sound is combined brilliantly to make this song the masterpiece which it is. The song opens slowly with a haunting tune played on the lead guitar, then as the drumming, bass and rhythm guitar kicks in the tempo suddenly shoots up to extremely fast. The lyrics are very meaningful in this song, and although there are only two verses they are sung with such ferocity that it burrows deep into your skull. I don’t often take the time to think what the words are about when I listen to a song, but in this song the feeling behind the words really sunk in. The vocals help greatly to accentuate the music, and after the second verse comes one of the best solos that I have ever heard. As the solo reaches it’s conclusion, the song fades out, ending silently as it began, but leaving you wanting much more. I cannot put across in words how this song really makes me feel, but whenever I listen to it I get a cold sensation across my back and my skin tingles, and this is after hearing it more than 50 times and having it dedicated to me on my birthday! If you have yet to hear Overload, I recommend it more than any other song ever written.
