LA GUNS – ENUFF Z NUFF Bradford Penningtons 8th April 03

I’m never quite sure which line up or who is going to be in these bands, but I did know that Traci Guns wouldn’t be appearing tonight. My first surprise of the night though was an added support band, who sounded OK. I don’t think they were needed though as we then only had the pleasure of Enuff z nuff for about 35 minutes. Something they didn’t seem to pleased about, with ten Lp’s worth of material to choose from. We were enthusiastically entertained by the now 3-some to mainly early classics ‘Fly high Michelle & new thing’. LA Guns with Adam Hamilton Bass, Steve Riley Drums & last on stage Phil Lewis kicked off with a powerful rendition of ‘Over the Edge’. Old favourites flowed, Sex Action, One More Reason, Ballad of Jane & added to that were a couple off the new CD Waking the Dead. Stand in guitarists Brent Muscatt & Ker Keli played with confidence & look & sound great together. Overall I enjoyed the show, I love standing down the front for these older bands, having seen them ‘in the distance’ years ago at larger venues. But was the lack of numbers in the crowd the reason for such a short set? Two years ago they played in front of twice as many fans in Manchester.

Love Hate Bradford Rio fri 18th April

Not impressed by first band. Secondly The Plastics were OK, a little bit punky, tried hard, definatley worth another look. Love Hate were LOUD, first couplea songs suffered from the sound, but then it was Fantastik for the rest of the gig. Jizzy’s voice has stood the test of time well & John E love was great on guitar. I don’t know who was havin more fun the fans or band as they scorched thru ‘wasted in america’, ‘dope’ & ‘tumbleweed’. I bounced, I screamed ‘yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah to She’s an Angel’, I had a sore neck the follwing day! Also a mention to the drummer Dave Moreno & bassist Robbie Crane who kept it rockin. ‘Mary Jane’ gave us all a slight breather & of course they had to finish with a blisterin ‘blackout in the red room’. Am now recovering & reading Jizzy’s books…
