Requiem For A Dream

This movie is one of the most dark, dreary, depressing, etc. movies that I have ever seen-but I loved it. It haunted me for days after. When a movie can have that effect on a person (especially me), it has to be a winner.

Darren Aronofsky brings the underbelly of society to the forefront in the form of drug addiction and all the baggage that comes with it. The two main characters (played by Jared Leto and Marlon Wayans) are hooked on heroin, (Jennifer Connelly) on cocaine, and (Ellen Burstyn) on speed. It’s not so much the graphic display of them actually doing drugs that’s disturbing but what they do to get the drugs. The toll the addictions take is just horrid.

Requiem For A Dream also has a very unique look as well. True creativity truly blossoms and plays perfectly into the overall feel. As far as the art of film is concerned, there isn’t much that could top this movie. It’s still hard to talk about because it’s etched in my head. I give this film 4.5 hopeless addicts out of 5.
