Donnie Darko is quite the different animal (pun intended) when it comes to cinema. Donnie is the title character who has emotional problems and hates taking the medicine he’s forced to and going to his psychiatrist. Soon enough this poor sap starts seeing a giant rabbit (among other things) that tells him to do dastardly things; however, there is much more that meets the eye.

This is one of the few movies where the viewer truly does not know what will happen next and all makes sense at the conclusion. Many of my friends describe this as one of their favorite movies and with good reason-it’s beautifully written and shot.

I was amazed when I went to the local Suncoast (cha-ching) that Donnie Darko is classified as a horror movie. It’s really more of a drama/suspense/weird friggin’ movie. Jake Gyllenhaal does a masterful job of playing our crazy hero/anti-hero (how do we describe him?). I hate to just brush the surface on this one, but I don’t want to give anything away. Rent or buy this film; you will not regret it. This bad boy gets 4 trippy bunnies out of 5.
