Demo Tapes
These are songs I have personally written/or recorded.
TAPE: "Demos-Guitar/Organ"
DATE: 2002
LOOKING FOR A DIFFERENT DAY :44
Notes: False start w/random overdub
LOOKING FOR A DIFFERENT DAY 4:05
Notes: Farfisa Fast 5 organ; was the first piece I wrote on it.
(I DIDN'T MEAN TO) MAKE YOU CRY 3:47
Notes: Slight rip of "Jumpin' Jack Flash"
UNTITLED JAM 4:07
Notes: Farfisa Fast 5 organ
UNTITLED JAM 1:13
Notes: Heavy use of the Fender Stratocaster
MOTHER'S LITTLE HELPER (excerpt)/UNTITLED :52
Notes: This quick rendition of the Stones classic was partially wiped and
featured an ultra cheap "Epi" acoustic.
"Untitled" is me messing around on a Farfisa Fast 5 made to sound like a calliope.
CRY ON MY SHOULDER 5:05
Notes: The channeled spirit of Nicky Hopkins plays on my cheap Casio CTK-550. Slightly based on Led Zeppelin.
TAPE: "SCHUTT UP!"
DATE: 2002
LONLIER (ver. 1) 4:00
Notes: This song would later be recorded the following year.
YOUR SMILE 4:15
Notes: These Dylanesque harmonies came to me one day on a school bus when a certain girl caught my eye. She was Catholic and sane, two qualities which rarely occurred with these crushes.
We almost dated when she suggested, "Could you cut your hair?" Anyways, I think this is the best song I ever did and she was flattered by it.
IN YOUR MIND 3:24
A sloppy demo written about Phil Spector murdering Lana Clarkson and what goes on in a killers mind. Slightly influenced by John Entwistle.
WHEN THINGS WON'T GO YOUR WAY 4:26
Notes: An unfinished tune with the Farfisa Fast 5 organ, it didn't go my way!
P.S. R.S. 6:22
Notes: Farfisa Fast 5 organ; Similar to "Take It Or Leave It" by the Rolling Stones and was written about a falling out with a woman whos initials were R.S. The S stood for Schutt, hence the title of this tape being "SCHUTT UP!".
The last verse was wiped for fear that it might be slanderous.
P.S.: A friend of mine despised this woman so much, he threw grapes at her!
THE SAME 3:47
Notes: An attempt at a Kinks-like ditty with unrehearsed harmonizing.
UNTITLED JAM 1:18
Notes: A T-Rex like bit.
UNTITLED JAM 1:10
Notes: A little bit of Beatles, a little bit of Stones, and a little bit of Bo Diddley.
SHE'S MY FRIEND 3:40
Notes: A rip-off of "Walk Like A Man" by the Four Seasons sprinkled with a dash of "Hooray For Hazel" by Tommy Roe. You've been warned...
THE TIME YOU'VE SPENT AWAY 4:29
Notes: Hammond organ; a Dylanesque piece of fiction about a widower in reverie on the 10th anniversary of his wife's death, either that or a man who's wife left him 10 years ago. I can't remember.
TAPE: "JA"
DATE: 2003
SPACE INTRO 1:16
Notes: Me goofing around on my then newly-acquired Hammond L-100, which I would later cannibalize for parts.
THE GIRL DRESSED IN VIOLET 5:51
Notes: The name speaks for itself; a 60s sounding poppy piece with a psych-pop ending.
BE WITH ME 4:58
Notes: A Pete Ham-like ballad I wish I would have added lyrics to.
MOONLIT COURTYARD aka MOONLIGHT 3:54
Notes: This Floyd-inspired "freak-out" jam piece was written under influence of sleep-deprivation. I could have called it "Death Of The Sugar Plum Fairy".
BLUES ORGAN :15
Notes: See "SPACE INTRO"
HOWEVER THINGS MAY GO 3:28
Notes: A song about coping with a woman's mood swings/change of heart. Believe it or not, I originally wanted cello on the song.
SHOW ME THE WAY 2:58
Notes: A Small Faces cover. And NO, it's not the Peter Frampton song...
TOUGH DECISION 3:07
Notes: A song with a beat like The Stones' "Out Of Time"; vocals were wiped due to frustration.
UNTITLED :23
Notes: Random bar chords on my electric guitar.
OLD MAN :25
Notes: This is an informal cover of the riff to the Neil Young song I played while trying to mic a nastily cheap "Epi" acoustic; the ending is improvised and you can hear a click track in the background.
The click track continues after the song until it is stopped and silence ends the tape.
TAPE: "8/16/03"
DATE: 2003
SEE THAT GIRL 6:20
Notes:A little innocent pop.
UNTITLED 7:17
Notes: A jam that didn't quite work out.
ELLIPSE EYES 5:24
Notes: A 70s style ballad complete with Neil Young-style guitar.
PERPETUAL (early ver) :53
Notes: Partially wiped.
BETTY 3:31
Notes: A ska-type song written in vain to give away to Slaughterhouse 6 after talking to then-drummer Colin. Fortunately, this song never surfaced.
TAPE: "Demos - Bernard Anderson"
DATE: 2003
LIVING IN A DREAM 5:26
Notes: I used an old Discwasher block for percussion.
I'LL NEVER FIND A WOMAN 8:16
Notes: An attempt at a Rod Stewart-like ballad.
UNTITLED 4:51
Notes: Sort of a rocker.
WHAT IS LIFE :17
Notes: An overdub exercise using the riff from the George Harrison song.
MERSEY BLUES 5:03
Notes: An Animals-like blues jam that abruptly stops at the end of the tape.
TAPE: "XI"
DATE: 2004
UNTITLED 4:51
Notes: Hammond L-100 organ; I wrote this in the vein of "Ruby Tuesday" by the Rolling Stones and "We Can Work It Out" by the Beatles.
J-A-D-E 4:03
Notes: I don't talk to this girl anymore, nor do I care to...
I LOVE HER, TOO 3:23
Notes: Same as above; vocals were wiped. This song was based on "Shapes Of Things" by the Yardbirds.
HELLO (dialogue) :35
Notes: This was a pathetic last-minute comedy routine utilizing the word "hello" spoken in different accents from around the world
made for my high school talent show. Somehow, they loved it.
LONLIER (ver. 2) 2:47
Notes: This was my second attempt at recording this song. Unlike the first version, this version has words.
Also for this version, I used my sister's "Montana" brand acoustic guitar given to her by our father.
SUNSET 4:14
Notes: This is a Spanish sounding instrumental piece with a beat like Donovan's "Sunshine Superman".
Again, I used my sister's guitar for this one. Prog?
ONLY YOU :35
Notes: An unfinished song intended to sound like "Heart Full Of Soul" by the Yardbirds with a Beatles "Eight Days a Week"-like riff.
TAPE: "DAS"
DATE: 2004/2005*
RED & READY 4:41
Notes: A terrible attempt at a Led Zeppelin-type song recorded after encouragement by Mark Anderson (no relation) of rock group Dark Mirror; see "J-A-D-E"
TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE 4:59
Notes: A song about a broken heart...about a certain girl...whose engagement would cause me a nervous breakdown, albeit after I recorded this song.
LOOK NO FURTHER 3:55
Notes: This song nauseates me, but it's here for reference. At least it has a "Dizzy Miss Lizzy"-style solo and CSN-style vocals at the end; See "J-A-D-E"
LOVE IN A PHOTOGRAPH* 5:35
Notes: McCartney meets Badfinger; this piece abruptly ends because of (you guessed it) running out of tape.
TAPE: "EAST"
DATE: 2004
PRETTY LITTLE GIRL FROM THE EAST 2:12
Notes: A song which would have been better titled "Pretty Little Girl From The East Village". It's a bit of power pop.
TAPE: "OTHER"
DATE: 2004
THEY ALL WANT ME 6:05
Notes: A Simon & Garfunkel-style folky piece.
TAPE: "NEU"
DATE: 2005
TIRED OF TRYING TO WIN YOU 4:53
Notes: Unfinished with click track and no lyrics.
B-A-E
Notes: Part of the ending was accidently wiped, so it sounds like a fade-out when it really isn't.
CASH RIGHT IN
Notes: A silly song written about me as a dead musician who wishes he were still alive and hopes Elton John won't write a cash-in tribute song about him like he did about Princess Diana.
THE DAY BEFORE 2:28
Notes: A song about turning back the hands of time to win a special someone; drums by Root Beer.
TAPE: "KNOW"
DATE: 2006/2007
I'D RATHER NOT KNOW ?:??
Notes: One of three recordings of this song with church bells in the background as soon as I stop playing. The song is about a woman who I have (had) a deep relationship with, yet not romantic. There comes a time in a man's life where he finds a woman who is suitable for marriage or not. Because of the possible emotional letdown and the possiblilty of her male friend BEING her boyfriend, I really didn't want to know whether she was single or not when writing this song. Now, I feel a bit better on knowing. I'd give out her name, but it may seem too obsessive as I did have a problem with that back in high school where I was very introverted up until my Senior year.
FOGGY
Notes: Here is a song I wrote way back in 2002. It's extremely folky and Spanish flavored as were much of the acoustic guitar-oriented pieces I was writing at that time.
HARD LIFE
Notes: A T-Rex/Badfinger inspired protest rocker about living in the post 9-11 world of the New World Order's control.
NEVER
Notes: A song I've written for Katie Marshall. Hopefully it will suit her enough for her to record. Pete Ham inspired this one.
TAPE: "BREAK LIKE THE DAY"
DATE: 2006/2007
DAYBREAK ?:??
Notes: Here is a Tom Evans/Badfinger inspired song I've been trying to complete for nearly three years. There is a bridge in the song not included here because I wanted to edit that in later; its melody is actually the same as the 'Revolver'-era Beatles style tune with a McCartney-style walking bass I'd recorded earlier.
DATE: 6/10/07
I DON'T REALLY LOVE YOU 4:44?
Notes: Here is a song I imagine Roy Orbison would have sung in his Wilbury years.
OVERDUBBED: 10/25/07 or 10/27/07
MIXED:
TAPE: N/A
DATE: 12/5/2006
DO YOU WEAR...? 3:37
Notes: This is a rocker recorded in Studio 5 at McNally Smith with Brian Ohm producing.
TAPE: "GAME"
DATE: 2/10/2007
PLAYING THE GAME 3:34
Notes: A pop song about an endless cycle of trying to avoid a girl you find attractive yet freaked out by. How's that for a mouthful?
-Produced by Iver Hillman- (Studio 5)
-Grand piano & electric guitar overdubbed 6/25/07, produced by Brian Ohm (Studio 2)
-Further overdubbing: 8/4/07
DATE: 9/14/07

NOBODY

SONG FROM YESTERDAY
IN THE WRONG WING (formerly known as "Never") 5/31/08
<<-BACK
DATE: 1/21/08
STRANDED
Notes: To the troops in Iraq and their loved ones.
DATE: 5/31/08
IN THE WRONG WING
Notes: For those who think that Liberal or Conservative is the only way to be politically affiliated.
DATE: 6/29/08
ROBOFUNK (aka STOMPIN')
Notes: A song created for an animation by Lindsey Testolin entitled "No Secularity" (which I detest) in the style of Prince and James Brown.
DATE: 7/9/08
AKEBONO
Notes: This was built off of a Japanese scale of the same name. It is meant to sound like Tchaikovsky, Grieg, or Bizet. The opening theme is based on Schumann's lied "Im Wunderschoen in Monat Mai" (In the Wonderful Month of May).
DATE: 7/18/08
O
Notes: This country-blues tune was recorded as a favor to Gabriel and Vincent, the Anarchist Hippies (self-proclaimed, no name calling here), who Produced and Engineered it.
