The SIKHOTE-ALIN meteorite shower over Eastern Siberia on February 12, 1947 is believed to have been the largest meteorite fall in recorded history. The meteorites from this fall are described as Octahedrite IIB, Iron Meteorites, and fall into two main catagories; INDIVIDUAL meteorites and SHRAPNEL meteorites.

The SHRAPNEL meteorites from this fall were created when the main mass exploded violently about 4 miles before impacting the Earth. These fragments have jagged edges.

Whole or INDIVIDUAL meteorites were each independent objects before traveling through our atmosphere. Along their fiery journey they form Regmaglypts or "Thumbprints", "Flowlines" and "Lipping", all adding to their sculpted artistic appearance. They make great gifts and collectors pieces as they are perfect miniature versions of a classic meteorite.

When Whole or INDIVIDUAL meteorites are said to be ORIENTED, this indicates that in addition to being complete individual meteorites, they also remained in a relatively stable position while burning through our atmosphere.
This is what gives them the much desired "Flowlines" along the leading edge and "Lipping" over the trailing edges.
