Alpha Centauri C: Proxima Centauri
Proxima Centauri, or Alpha Centauri C, is the nearest known star, at a distance of 4.371 light-years from the Earth. A faint, cool, red dwarf star of spectral type M, it is also a flare star. Proxima Centauri appears to be gravitationally bound to the double star Alpha Centauri.
