Interview with Rose Nez
Topic: Bochinclonny History
Today was an interesting day. Traveling back home for fall break, I visited my grand-father's sister Rose Nez. She is originally from Nashchitti, New Mexico (Nahashch'idi), the wife of the late Arthur Nez. Though she couldn't remember much, she was willing to provide me information for this study. From her, I learned that my paternal great-grandfather was named Charley Netdeel. I knew that my paternal great-grandmother was named Hanesbah. Since this is the Anglo rendering of the original Navajo name I didn't know the exact pronounciation. She pronounced it Hanaazbaa', the same name of my maternal great-grandmother. As for her grandparents, she didn't remember since they died during the war. Since my Navajo is not too good, I wasn't able to clarify exactly what she meant. I'm assuming that her grandparents died during the "Long Walk" since this is about the time-period they would have lived.
