Last night was an incredible experience. My friend and I got together to watch it, just hoping GNR would show....I bought three high quality VHS tapes to get the WHOLE thing on tape....all the hints and everything were just insane. My friend was much more pessimisstic about the possibility, especially as the night rolled on. It got to where Jimmy was like "the rumors are true" and I was freaking out. My friend was like "you dont know what rumors hes talking about, you're too into GNR so you think of that immediately". I was like "no, the rumors EVERYWHERE have been GNR"
Then when Jimmy started whistling patience.....and then sang "just have a little paa--tiiience". Thats when my friend and I both just lost it and started freaking out. He kept saying "oh my god, its gonna happen". My eyes started getting half teary and my whole body was shaking. I couldnt sit or stop moving.
Then the performance.....Axl's voice was a bit off, but not to the point where it bothered me at all. I did think they were fucking up Jungle until I realized they were shortening it....then madagascar.....it was like seeing a buddy on national tv or soemthing. It was like this very personal song noone else really knows that Ive jammed to for what seems like forever now and there it was on MTV. That was as surreal as it gets. I seriously DID literally, physically, pinch myself because it all seemed too much like a dream.
The confetti at the end of paradise city.....and Axl running around and sliding around in it.....just incredible. What a show. Even when I watch it on tape now I cant really talk to others while its on, my voice starts cracking a bit. The whole thing....the four year set up, the surprise element, the fact that EVERYONE was so supportive on MTV....it just gets me emotional every time. It's our boys out there doing the impossible! Incredible, just incredible. Sal, you were dead on when you compare it to 01-01-01. Anyone who wants to know what the 01-01-01 experience felt like, just emotionally and physically.....if you got to see it live on MTV last night you now know....that was like the greatest natural high in the world. Cant wait for the tour!
