The show in tokyo was unbelievable and the guys are cool.
super cool. the new members and the crew could not have been sweeter. axl keeps to himself but did pop into the catering room/aftershow party room to just wave.
my favorite people are buckethead (top number one guitar player and character), his assistant Dan who got us into the show, the tour manager tom, the drummer Brain, and the security guy Jimbo.
They played everything. It all sounded legit and whatsmore, loud and sick. lights, excellent too. Fireworks at the end. Axl and Rivers had a little lovefest after the show, and exchanged pleasantries from the stage....
all in all AWESOME
There was tons of vid but i wasnt paying much attention... i recall lots of burning cars and car crashes, then lots of religious imagery, and dolphins swimming. not especially innovative or noteworthy.
This band impressed my jaded self beyond belief.
They are worth the fans' adulation. especially buckethead (trust me, he's beyond cool!).
Source: here today gone to hell forum They played 18 songs and it lasted approximately 2 hours. Axl was very happy and I was truly moved. Believe me, it took him 9 years to come back and it was a long time for me to wait...
I personally loved the show. Axl looked fabulous. In fact I thought he looked even better than when I saw him 9 years ago.
The stadium they played in was very big, I think it could probably hold 30,000 people and it was full. I was so touched by the fact GN'R after 9 years and no new album could still draw that many fans in a country 5000 miles away from home.
As somebody else mentioned, there seemed to be a technical problem with Axl's michrophone or something which seemed to bother him and us in the beginning, but the show was so great I didn't mind it so much. I think it was probably because of the language problem, but there was not much talk in between songs and that was one thing I regretted. I wanted him to speak more. However, he was so sincere and I could really see that he was having a great time performing, and I think that made many of his loyal fans very happy. Maybe if there was more introduction speech in between songs like he did for the Use Your Illusion tour in 92 and 93, the continuity could be smoother, but I think maybe it was because of the language that he didn't do.
I actually liked the fact he played slow songs in a row because I could sit down and really listen to Axl's ever unchanged wonderful voice. The Blues was exceptionally beautiful. I came in tears.
Axl said he was very happy being back in Tokyo, and repeatedly thanked us for having them. He was so sincere. He said he wanted to come back here and apologyzed for taking so long to be back. He also asked us if we ever thought they would be back. I was quite far from the stage and although I answered to everything he said or asked, my voice didn't reach the stage and I actually felt really bad about many Japanese fans not understanding what he said. I think he wanted us to shout "yes" or "no" or "we love you too" or something, but unfortunately I couldn't hear much of that from the crowd. It was obvious all the fans were having a great time though. Everyone went crazy when they played their anthem, Paradise City at the end. There was a set of real fireworks right after the show too and that was very nice.
There are many things I want to write here, but I am still in the state of excitement and I can't write well now. Maybe tomorrow morning I will come in again. It's already 4am. Time for me to go to bed...
Thanks for reading. I am so glad Guns N' Roses still rocks. I seriously think tonight was the most exciting night of my life. I waited for the show for 9 years and finally got to see it!
Wheezer was playing before GN'R, the lead singer (sorry I don't even know his name) said "Next up is Guns n' Roses." and the guitarist said "Yeah, amazing, isn't it?" I wasn't sure if they were really being excited for what they were about to see, or being sarcastic about the fact most of the crowd there couldn't wait for the next act. Well, their show ended right on time at 6:15 and GN'R show was supposed to start at 7:00. As you know, they were 45 minutes late and to be honest the crowd was getting fidget after 30 minutes or so. Right then, this lead singer of Weezer came out to the arena area to greet the fans around. I really think it was an act to keep the attention of the fans until GN'R was ready to be on stage. And in fact it worked very well because a lot of people went to the fence to touch him. Shortly after that the show started, and in the middle of the show, Axl said "It's so nice to be back in Tokyo, and it's great to do this with Wheezer. They are really cool." I have no idea what is going on at the backstage, but I thought it was really cute they both mentioned each other at their act. It made me smile.
Another show in Osaka tonight. I am sure every single GN'R fan in Osaka will be 10 times more than satisfied after the show. Believe me, GN'R is alive, and Axl is at his best. You don't know how much I envy all of you that will be at the shows in Europe. You are about to witness the best show ever in your life!!!
