Nate and Gear: He is frequently seen playing his trademark red Fender Precision Bass, and other times he plays his black Ampeg F-Hole Bass. He bought his first Bass because he wanted to be in a band, and heard that it was the easiest instrument to play. His friend also told him that it was the sexiest instrument. As for amps, he leans towards Peavys, using their Max Bass Preamps and DPC 1400 Power amps. Most of the other foos go for Gibson.

Foo Fighters and Sunny Day Real Estate: 'The Intellectual Foo'. His favorite Foo Song is said to be Exhausted. He joined the Foo Fighters along with William Goldsmith after their previous band, Sunny Day Real Estate, broke up after the singer, Jeremy Enigik, became a born-again Christian. After Goldsmith's departure from the Foos, Sunny Day Real Estate got back together, and Nate was playing for both SDRE and Foo at the same time. He eventually decided to stick around with the Foos, and SDRE got a new bassist.

Nate on Stage: Nate usually stands to Dave Grohl's left on stage. Ever wonder what he's thinking when he's staring off into space? He once stated that he's "Trying not to look like the dork that [he] knows [he] is". He needs to give himself more credit than that!

Fast Facts: Nate is usually shy and quiet. He worked at a construction site, a cookie factory and in a restaurant to put himself through college. He graduated from Richland High in either 1987 or 1988. He enjoys snowboarding (and is apparently quite good at it), reading, and eating Thai food. There's a rumor that he's vegetarian, but it likely isn't true. He's the only Foo with a college degree - a Double Major in History and Journalism. He wanted to be a journalist, but music got in the way. His favorite Spice Girl is Mel C, 'Sporty Spice'. He has a dog named Lucy.
