dc talk
What do you say about the biggest act in Christian music? They're not up the top
for nothing let me tell you. And they've been there for a while, a decade I think. Like
newsboys dc talk are a group that is constantly reinventing themselves, the reason why they
have endured so long. And even though there is always a mammoth wait between their releases
they all always live up to their lofty expectations.
I remember the days when I was but a wee lad and the funky grooves and raps of dc talk first burst through my sister's stereo. It was a time when me and my friends would compete to see who could master Toby Mac's rapping the best, without getting tongue tied. Ahhh, those were the days, and listening back on their hip hop beginnings on their recent "Intermission - The Greatest Hits" they still are. Dang that stuff is catchy.
But of course the album that dc talk will always hold a fond memory in our hearts for
is of course, "Jesus Freak", when three hip hop singers and rappers turned grungy and rocked
our world. Yes, "Jesus Freak" was a revolution and for many the album of the century. And with
good reason, it's a brilliant album! "In the Light" is one of the greatest praise songs of
all time, "Colored People" is simply beautiful, "Like It, Love It, Need It" rocked and "Jesus
Freak" simply became the Christian anthem of the 90s.
Three years was always gonna be some wait, but when the follow up, "Supernatural" was finally released it became the third highest selling album on debut ever. And it was worth it. Songs like "Consume Me", "My Friend (So Long)" and "Supernatural" cemented dc talk as one of the greatest Christian acts of all time.
