Falling...(asleep, for you, etc)
I crawl into bed at dawn
The morning light streaming through the blinds
I smile and think of you getting ready to begin your day,
Stumbling to the shower,
Dressing for work,
Seeking God more intensely than this world would begin to understand.
I, half asleep now, wish I could be there with you
Sacrifice the sleep
To pray with you,
play with you,
stay with you.
But I doubt you’d have me
So I sleep to dream
That you might be here with me
That you might tenderly touch my face,
envelop me in your embrace,
and
talk, in hushed tones, of God’s incomprehensible grace.
All with passion the world would only seek to pervert.
So come into my dream,
You don’t even have to leave your day.
Only you’ll never remember
Unless you embrace reality more tightly than I dream you embrace me
So that a dream might diffuse into day by day
And I could stay
In your arms,
Brushing your hair from your eyes
and
Watching God work in your soul.
