As fittingly as SFA were my first gig, they were also the first band I saw a second time! By now the Super Furries were firmly established as the finest act on Earth and their live show was approaching its peak. Naturally though, persuading others to come to the gig proved difficult. I mean, if someone promised me a gig would be one of the greatest experiences of my life, I'd want to go so I can make up my own mind, putting me in a pretty strong position to comment on their argument either way. Everyone I know though just seems to freak out and refuse to attend the second I hype something up, making their arguments afterwards that this wasn't a great show retarded beyond belief, as this was top stuff, guaranteed to convert anyone who went there without an agenda to disagree with me! After waiting outside for a good hour to guarantee a position down the front and meeting loads of nice people, me and the one open-minded individual I'd found (who loved it of course) had no problem securing the central spot. At some point in the set a TV crew appeared and filmed us, promising we'd be on Channel 4, but nothing ever seemed to come of that! Clinic opened the show with an OK but fairly repetitive set. Don't think they even wore their surgeon outfits back then, so their live set definitely needed to return to the operating table!

The stage was then covered with loads and loads of TV screens that created an awesome effect, even though the Furries chose not to put anything particularly interesting on them. SFA opened with an admittedly only-OK Wherever I Lay My Phone (That's My Home), before exploding into Bad Behaviour. In the live arena that song reaches atomic proportions! This was followed by an astonishing She's Got Spies. For quite a few years after this all my SFA compilations opened with this trio of fantastic tunes! The rest of my set was uniformly excellent, with a trumpeter dressed as I-can't-remember-what for Demons, Blerwytirhwng? being a surprise inclusion but amazingly atmospheric, The International Language Of Screaming living up to its status as one of the best songs ever, and The Man Don't Give A Fuck being extended ad infinitum for one of the first times ever. It was true that most of the audience were just confused by this, but I saw it as a fantastic surprise, even if the furry trumpet players were yet to be introduced into the SFA live proceedings for another few months! One of the best shows I have ever been to and one of the very few I have attended that was reviewed in NME.
