Formed in Liverpool,England in 1960 by guitarist Paul McCartney(born June 18,1942 in Liverpool,England) and guitarist John Lennon(born October 9,1940 in Liverpool, England). Originally as the Quarrymen, then as the Silver Beatles, Lennon and McCartney joined up with bassist Stuart Sutcliffe(born June 23,in Edinburgh,Scotland), drummer Pete Best(born 1941) and began tours of the UK and Germany. At one point, Sutcliffe decided to stay in school rather than tour, and McCartney then moved to the bass position. Shortly afterwards, Stuart Sutcliffe died of a brain hemorrhage in april 1962. The band would eventually link up with Brian Epstein, who was the owner of a local record shop, and who also arrainged for producer George Martin of EMI Records, to sign the "Fab Four" to a recording contract.
In August of 1962, Lennon and McCartney fired Pete Best, and picked up Ringo Starr. Soon afterwards, they began to release singles starting with "Love Me Do". Followed by three smash hits,"Please Please Me","From Me To You", and "She Loves You".
The Beatles popularity in the US took off after an appearance on the "Ed Sullivan Show" in February of 1964. As their musical careers took off, so did their success as actors. It began with "A Hard Day's Night" followed by "Help". Both of which were huge commercial successes. But with all their success, came discourse. With a combination of personality clashes, drugs, mystical religions, and the overall stress of being the hottest band in the world, it was all to lethal for the "Boys from Liverpool".
After the death of manager Brian Epstein in August of 1967 of a drug overdose, the world of fun and games, callaborations and togetherness began to unravel for the Beatles. Soon each member began to persue separate careers and interests. Still, with all the distractions, the band managed to write and record terrifically fine songs. And this would continue until the groups breakup in the early part of 1970.
