Wish List - Level Three

The Basic Issue

The first two levels of the Wish List Instrument are designed to generate speed. It removes obstacles and moves people forward with increasing speed. It does this for about two years, at which point it is designed to have them to hit a wall with sufficient speed to get their attention in a big way.

The truth they encounter is that "taking hold" of one's life does not work. At least, it does not work by itself. They now have a car that runs, but they are pushing their Ferraris all over town. They are ready to hear about gasoline. The need a "tiger in their tank".

This is the point at which people are ready to hear about the "let go" dimension of life and how it plays into their lives.

One of the reasons I don't push into the third level of this model until people are needing it is that life can go on perfectly well in many cases until the situation arises where it is impossible to carry on. You can push your Ferrari but not up hills. When people find themselves out of resource, level three is indeed "good news". In level three, they are introduced to the notion of God wanting to provide the resources and energy for their "wish list activities done for others".

The Process for Level Three

Level three is very simple. I have them take a new sheet of paper and re-write the phrases at the top of their paper. Level three does not require a re-writing of the actual list items. It just requires a change in the headings at the top.

This time they write on the left: "Joe/Susan, these are the types of things I want to do through you in the community: ", and on the right they write: "and I want to do them through you in the community until:"

At the bottom of that clear sheet of paper, I get them to sign the paper "God".

At this point, I have them read out the list with the first part of the sentence changed in this way, and point out how the meaning changes from us doing the wish list to God doing the list through us.

Level three does lift the pressure from having to do everything oneself, but it introduces another problem which is resolved at level four.
