Institutions Involved in Community Development Work

The Basic Issue

There are many institutions operating in the rural community development field. In referring to these institutions, some people use the terms institution and organization interchangeably, and others do not. Some view the term institution as an all-encompassing term of which organization is a subset or expression (see Ferrazzi below). For purposes of this web site, I am going to use institution and organization more or less interchangeably.

It should be noted, however, that there are institutions which are specifically focused on community development as such. There are also institutions which have a central mandate in the community different from community development or community animation, but do in fact do community development work. These institutions are seen to be vital players in the community development process.
